I almost agree. There's value in keeping separate

profile
 under which we group values to be displayed *together*

unified type
 under which we group values to be display *as one type*

panel
 grouping of which HL7 seems to require and which documents
 how tests were ordered and values returned -- regardless
 of how an individual user thinks they want to group
 tests into profiles

Those three have semantic difference of clinical value.
