There will be some effort involved in getting started with either, but not as much work as building all the dependencies on your own. I don't think there's a native installer available. Every once in a while someone proposes a native port (these days it would be likely to use the aqua gtk+), but I don't think anyone who knows how to do it has undertaken the project. Macports generally has the new bleeding edge stuff sooner than fink. I maintain the fink gnumeric package, and I'm not as quick to stay up-to-date on new releases.
