Thanks for the link. It explains clearly what I supposed. Now, about doing happily without, I'm not so sure. I'm actually trying to use a spreadsheet for taxes and the f1040 and schedule {A,B,C...} instructions often refer to "line X on form y" and I thought it would be convenient to create a range out of the column containing line numbers and the row containing column names. Thus, the intersection of the row range and column range would give that cell. At least that's what I was thinking of doing.
