Andreas-

My original testing may have been before I discovered View-Properties. However,
for my "UPDATE" email (inserted below), I first set Autocomplete ON in both
Edit-Preferences-Tools and View-Properties, and then launched a new page to do
my testing.

Looks like some installation-specific issues.

Thanks for your feedback.

Subject: UPDATE ON: Autocomplete and DropDown box issues

Results of further experimentation with Autocomplete:

- Autocomplete sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. All sorts of seemingly
unrelated actions cause it to stop working, sometimes for good, sometimes for
short periods. I read everything I could find in the bug reports and manuals;
some of it confirms my problem.

- Does not work on "referenced" values, but only on cells with the actual text
string.

- Match is case sensitive (some of my earlier attempts failed because of this).

- Immediately after trying something that doesn't work (like a non-matching
case), next try at autocomplete will fail. Try once more, and it works.

Thanks,
Tom

You cannot turn Autocomplete on by using Edit-Preferences-Tools. That
setting only affects whether new views of a document have autocomplete
turned on. It does not affect existing views. For an existing view you
need to use View->ViewProperties

I can navigate in it using the he up and down arrows and then hit Enter
on desired item.

Of course I am not using a recent version of Gnumeric on Linux.
