Some additional details: - I can play the files on the computer to which the external hd is connected using http://192.168.1.3:5190/. - I can see the files on my laptop connected to the lan using http://192.168.1.3:5190/. - netstat is now reporting 5190 as open. - I can download files through gnump3d, but can't open them in either vlc or mplayer.
