Given your background and interests, I'm thinking maybe:

Those are both related, very long-standing, and seem related to your background. For testing, you can probably even just pipe together gnunet-helper-audio-record and gnunet-helper-audio-playback with a latency-varying pipe. Maybe that'll get gnunet-conversation working reasonably nicely and out of src/contrib/ hell ;-).
