IIRC, NT 5 and higher (and probably 9x) treat %programfiles% that way. But, since I have never used Vista, I can't know what you mean exactly. I know for sure that %programfiles%, %windir%, and %windir%\system(32) are special in at least NT 5 and higher. I am interested in how Vista treats these directories, though.
