> weren't we losing the whole point?As you said: ONE of the ideas. The other one is to ptotect the keys (though not completely their usage) on your more protected system. As "more protected" is still a serious risk in typical environments. Using secret keys on other systems is the more serious argument but even for keys on a single host we are not missing the point.
