I searched for a source about 2.4.x being EOL and found this blog post (August

The stable 2.4.x series will reach its End of Life in about 11 months. The next stable release
will be version 2.6, followed by a development branch with version number 2.7.x.
Unless I am mistaken, I don't see any 2.6.x in your releases, I see 2.5.x: are odd releases stable
or is 2.5.x a development version?
Could this be the reason why Debian sticks to 2.4.x and doesn't upgrade to
2.5.x?
