Hi,

I think you're right about something being wrong somewhere.

On login XFCE complains about not being able to connect to the trash service
(or something along those lines) and FAM is completely broken so files on
the Desktop/in Thunar are never updated.

I've been meaning to rebuild a few things myself to see if I could fix the
problems but I've not gotten around to it quite yet.
