I ran memtest last night, and my memory is fine. So the problem is
definitely in the nfo driver.

However, my gigabit switch arrived today, and after plugging everything
in with cat5e, suddenly I can't make the kernel panic anymore. at least
with the 2.6.1 nfo driver. So my guess is that the nfo driver just
hasn't been tested sufficiently in a 10Mb/half duplex scenario;
1000Mb/full duplex works fine.

So if anyone else is having trouble with the nfo driver, get your
network running at 1000Mb/full and it should behave okay.

cheers,
