Is that when a submenu is displayed, the app don't notice any other event that isn't related with the menu, because is in a loop. For that reason when you minimize the window, the method -miniaturize: isn't called. My solution is just close the menu if the mouse is outside this. I know this isn't the Gnome behaviour.
