Hi * I now this is not a gnuwin32 specific problem, but perhaps someone knows more than me. AFAIK all version of texinfo after 4.2 have the feature (or bug?) to complain
info: Terminal type 'dumb' is not smart enough to run Info. if info is called within a terminal/dos/cmd-Windows. I am currently working with Microsoft Windows XP SP 2 (WinXP) and the texinfo-4.6 package from gnuwin32. Why this happens? How can I get to work the info program? I googled around and although this problem consists now since several years I didn't found any useful advise to handle this. My current (not satisfying) workaround is: Work with texinfo-4.2-4 But the gnuwin32 project doesn't offer this package. So I have to get some old texinfo package from somewhere else. Thus, I do the following: 1) I go to http://cygwin.com/mirrors.html and select the mirror that is closest to my place. 2) From this server, I select the following archives: url-to-mirror/release/texinfo/texinfo-4.2-4.tar.bz2 url-to-mirror/release/cygwin/cygwin-1.5.12-1.tar.bz2 url-to-mirror/release/libiconv/libiconv2/libiconv2-1.9.2-1.tar.bz2 3) From the downloaded archives, I unpack the following files and put them into my gnuwin32/bin directory: texinfo-4.2-4.tar.bz2 /usr/bin/info.exe cygwin-1.5.12-1.tar.bz2 /usr/bin/cygwin1.dll libiconv2-1.9.2-1.tar.bz2 /usr/bin/cygiconv-2.dll Is there a better solution that does not rely on a project other than gnuwin32? Thanks for any help!
