yes that was the Plante fiasco
which came about because they were never able to replace Cheevers who
bolted to the WHA

a footnote was that the Whalers who then had the hockey stage in
Boston to themselves found interest in the team tepid and they started
to look at the new building in Hartford. Whalers won the WHA in 73 but
nobody in Boston cared
