Mandovi is the sensible name for it but i
was the beginning of a process to “remove Portuguese influence and culture” by
calling it Mhadei.

If in some weird reality the Portuguese were to recolonize Goa, those same
Caros, Dempos and Bhornos who quickly changed their names to Karés, Dempés and
Bharnés would as quickly revert to their Portuguese versions without as much as
batting an eyelid.

Also street and building name changes from the British-ruled India and
Portuguese-ruled Goa versions merely meant the streets became dirtier and
messier and buildings became more dilapidated than ever.

Roland.
