Just when I was sitting down to search and read through all the reviews of Goa, 1961, my dear pal Valmiki neatly provides them to me in one email.  And what great reviews they are for his book but for me too! I realized this is the book i need and this is the book I have to recommend to all my friends overseas.  Part of me was ashamed that I knew almost nothing of even the few facets  that the reviewers had featured in their reviews: “ Senior officers of the small garrison defending Panjim were in a hopeless situation without human or material means to resist the Indian troops, artillery, armour or the air force. Archbishop D. José Vieira Alvernaz was able to convince the CO to lay down arms and declare a ceasefire, saving Panjim and its inhabitants. The Portuguese hoisted a white flag atop a riverfront tree on the southern bank of the Mandovi River. Past dusk, closer to 8 p.m., Goan priest Msgr Gregório Magno de Souza Antão, carried a ceasefire letter from Maj. Acácio Nunes Tenreiro, military commander of Panjim, in a rowboat across the Mandovi.” But then I must remember that this is valmiki, the very low key gentleman who won’t hold it against me - I just need to read the book preferably an autographed version.  Parabéns, amigo!
