I still remember the massive anti-capitation fee protests in Goa in the 1980's, where Goan students strongly opposed private colleges trying to open up in Goa and offering courses like MBBS for cash. We won, the government lost and backed off from these plans. Looking at the current details, it does look like these are not heavy weight, professional courses. Else, it would had voided all our efforts and hardships, where some class reps like myself who were positioned in the front rows got lathi charged. It really hurts (my back was burning for a week), but if that is the price to pay for rights and freedom of expression, so be it. (Yes, great memories, it was true democracy in action then, where citizens could protest and hold morchas when necessary. Unlike today where everything is controlled and censored, and citizens have their voices gagged, been stripped of freedom of expression and protest rights. A fake democracy, but more of a autocracy that is either way, laughable to the world.) Hope the land search does not end up with yet another set of corruption underhand deals...

Three of these universities which have been issued letters of the State’s in-principle okay by the Directorate of Higher Education are out-station institutions. According to information furnished by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the education portfolio, Parul University of Parul Arogya Seva Mandal Trust, Vadodara-Gujarat, the Skill Development University of Jaipur-Rajasthan, Entrepreneurship Global Foundation’s Skill Development University, MIT Group of Institutions, Pune, Vishwanath Karad World Peace University and Sunaparanta Foundation’s Sunaparanta University in Goa have been sent letters conveying the in-principle consent to start their universities here. However, none of them have been given any final permission as yet and the government has not given them any land, Sawant’s reply in the recently held monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly, said. The in-principle consent given to these universities is in keeping with the Private University Act, the government has enacted but no private university has started any physical work to start their operations in Goa so far. The State presently has only the State-funded Goa University functional to which all Goa’s colleges are affiliated. The Private University Act was enacted back in 2020 after Sawant took over the reins of the State. https://www.thegoan.net/goa-news/inprinciple-govt-nod-for-four-pvt-universities-but-land-is-an-issue/102762.html See the attached two replies in the Goa Assembly.... -- FN * +91-9822122436 * 784 Saligao 403511 Bardez Goa -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Goa-Research-Net" group.
