Interesting article, Margarida. Thank you for sharing. Other names that come to mind are
Dr. Gama Pinto, after whom the Instituto de Oftalmologia and a road near the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon are named; Dr. Roberto Frias, who was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Porto and after whom a road near the Faculty of Medicine of Porto are named; Dr. Agostinho Vicente Lourenço, a physician considered to be one of the greatest chemists of his time; Mgr. Sebastião Rodolfo Dalgado, who, according to the great Swedish scholar Jarl Charpentier, was the greatest linguist of his time; Dr. Artur Rebelo, Supreme Court Justice in Portugal; and Dr. Luiz da Cunha Gonçalves, author of a multivolume commentary of the Portuguese Civil Law. Many more could be added to this short list.
