Hi Fred, I did contact one of our philatelic society friends and he is a freemason himself in Goa. He did say that the current set of freemasons at his lodge are all post 1961 period and that there is no record of anything before that date. Apparently there were freemasons in Goa connected with Portugal, but after 1961 they switched to the British system. The Freemasonry then was apparently a secret affair, as no Catholic was allowed to be a Freemason as per the order of Pope Clement in 1738. Hence that might explain the absence of any public links to details of these guys with aprons. 🙂 So, looks like the details of the lodge in Goa and its secrets might have to the grave to those members who are no more. I did try contact the Grand Lodge in Portugal, but as expected, they are not replying. Frederick, Do you have any evidence that Antonio Floriano de Noronha was a Mason or free Mason, or that he was influenced by that ideology, or is it just a suspicion or rumor? There were atheists and “free thinkers” in Europe who were not free Masons or influenced by Freemasonry. And not all free Masons were atheists as far as I know. There are vague references about Freemasons competing with the Church, as rival centres of power.
