Dear Friends of XCHR,
The Xavier Centre of Historical Research (XCHR), Goa is delighted to announce
the installation of an elevator that further enhances accessibility to its
campus, especially to those differently abled or physically challenged.
As we constantly strive to make our campus and its facilities accessible, the
elevator will primarily serve the needs of researchers and visitors alike who
find it difficult to visit our library on the first floor, as well as attend
talks and exhibitions on the same floor. And then, there’s also the challenge
to those who need to access the second floor. The elevator is
wheelchair-accessible.
While we encourage you to use the stairs to keep your fitness levels in check,
the elevator is nonetheless available for convenience. For the energy
conscious, the XCHR elevator is powered by its own solar grid.
We are grateful to the generous support of our friends and benefactors. The
elevator project was generously provided through the assistance of the Goa
Xavier Company of the Goa Jesuits. The support of the former Chairman and
Provincial, Roland Coelho SJ was instrumental in realising this project. So
also was the encouragement of the incumbent Chairman and Provincial, Pedro
Rodrigues SJ. The XCHR is thankful to the Treasurer, Merwin D’Souza SJ, the
Province Development Director, Joseph Nazareth SJ, and their staff.
We appreciate and thank Architect Anup Gadgil for generously designing the
structure for the elevator. We are also thankful to the following professionals
for their contribution to the elevator project: Engineer Viraj Kunkoliencar,
Engineer Jose Mario Po and team as well as consultants Carlos Athayde, Anthony
Pecci Athayde and Savio Rodrigues SJ. The elevator has been installed by Ennova
Elevators. Their team comprising of Vijay Rane, Prajot Sawant and staff were
highly skilled and efficient. Thank you.
We thank the XCHR staff, including the former Administrator, Malcolm Barreto
SJ, the Librarian, Arti Fernandes, and the former Office Assistant, Ryan
Rosario, for undertaking various supervisory roles.
The XCHR is grateful to Anthony Pecci Athayde for his technical guidance and
supervision of the elevator project. His constant support has been invaluable
to the XCHR.
Lastly, to the former Director, Anthony da Silva SJ, for bringing this project
to fruition, thank you.
