Danny is spot on. The real conversation is about the reward system. In particular, we need to move away from two principles: 1. Journals are not good tools to evaluate the quality of individual works; individual works are; 2. Present reward systems focus exclusively on the outcome of competition; science need cooperation and sharing at least as much as competition.
