NT News ServiceMargao, June 14 In a daring daylight robbery, cash amounting to Rs 4,000 was robbed by a thief from three different cash boxes at Raia church today. The incident sent shockwaves through the community here as it happened this afternoon. The Maina Curtorim police registered the offence on unknown person and that investigation is on. The police officials, who rushed to the site on hearing the news informed that they immediately sent an alert all around. According to the parish priest of Our Lady of Snows Church, Raia, Fr Cypriano D Silva, his assistant priest, Fr Menino Vales noticed a bag in the church while he was praying at around 3.15 p.m. He said that Fr Vales immediately informed him and he went out to alert the workers who were working outside while Fr Vales kept an eye on the bag. After sometime, Fr Vales saw a man come from the church to the praying room. When he shouted out the thief jumped down, open the church door and fled. The dog squad was pressed into service, and fingerprint experts were called in. However the police dog lost the scent ran after a few metres.The news spread like wildfire and along with the parishioners, MLA, Mr Alexio Reginald, the sarpanch of Camorlim, Mr Basilio Fernandes, panchas and the deputy sarpanch of Raia came to the church.
