Dears, There was a preview of the film Savariyaa Dot Com on 28 January, 2009 at the Maquinez Palace IFFI auditorium. I was privileged to attend it along with the Goa Bachao Abhiyan Convener, Women's activist, Chemistry teacher, doctorate scholar at Goa University, my wife's former colleague and my friend ...all rolled into one, Sabina Martins. A few moments earlier we were at the Secretariat to hand over the GBA memorandum to the Chief Minister of Goa for providing sufficient time, technical support, legal basis and money to the village Panchayats and Municipalities to complete the planning process of the proposed Regional Plan 2021 ...now in a much debated draft form. If you want to see beauty with brains, just observe Priyanka Bidaye, the girl who acted in the Konkani film ALISHA [set in the backdrop of the iron ore mines of Goa] while she was a student of Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola- Ponda [Kya bolti tu? Ati kya Khandola? ishtyle] and is now a Ph. D scholar in .....you guessed it ....chemistry! The movie is a love triangle in the era of marriage websites like Shaadi.com. Easy for any college student to identify one's self ...or one's fantasy ....with the film. The story is narrated wonderfully and the film does not drag. The use of Baki Bab Borcar's poem in a Youth Festival situation is an added attraction for those who love poems in Konkani. If one does not love Konkani, one cannot call oneself a Goan of a Konknni and... if one does not love poems, Valentine's Day is not for you. Neither is the movie, Savariyaa Dot Com If you are young at heart with a dash of romanticism in you, this is just the film for you. Remember to fetch some snacks for your friend during the intermission. The film can well leave you dreaming during the intermission .... and waiting for more at the end.
