'Eloped' girls brought back from KashmirTNN, Aug 24, 2010, 06.50am IST
MARGAO: In an adventure of sorts, a team of Colva police personnel brought back
home two local girls, aged 21 and 22, who allegedly eloped with two youth from
Kashmir recently.
The girls, brought back to Goa from Kashmir on Sunday, were reunited with their
relieved families, police sources said.
The girls were working in a shop in Colva where two Kashmiri youth were also
employed.
When the young men quit their jobs and returned home the girls went with them,
sources said. Subsequently, missing person's reports were lodged at the Colva
police station.
According to police sources, a team of policemen led by PSI Satish Gawde and
accompanied by some family members of the girls, based on details obtained from
initial investigations, headed to the Bimina area of Srinagar, the last known
native address of the two youth from Kashmir.
What's significant is that the police brought the girls back while facing an
indocile situation in an area controlled by militants. Police sources said they
had to make every move undercover as they ran the risk of being attacked by
militants had their identities been revealed.
Police sources further said that the team, with the help of the local police in
the area, finally traced the girls to a house where they were staying with some
other women. The two Kashmiri youth, however, were not found, sources said.
After convincing the girls to return home, the police team brought the two
girls back home to Goa.
