Press report on JOTA/JOTI Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) JOTA-JOTI is the world’s largest digital Scout event taking place online and over the air. The educational event brings together more than 2 million Scouts every year in October for a weekend of Scouting and friendship.
Young people can learn about communications technology and connect with fellow Scouts from over 170 countries. JOTA-JOTI is about the 21st century skills you can learn in Scouting and the values of global citizenship. The event is open to Scouts around the world, enabling young people to connect and communicate with each other using the Internet and amateur radio. JOTA-JOTI engages youth in educational activities that build teamwork, cross-cultural understanding and skills for the future. JOTA in Goa Goa Radio Amateurs Society (GRAS) is coordinating and supporting the Scouts and Guides of Cuncolim United Higher Secondary School on 20 th October 2019. The event provided a hands-on demonstration to the Scouts and Guides of the school to communicate through wireless Transceivers (Transmitter and Receiver) through VHF and HF in SSB and FM modes. This helped the students to understand the basic ethics and protocols needed in wireless communication and advantages of these gadgets that can be utilized when there is emergency where the normal channels of communication fail or at any location where there is inadequate communication network. The event also made the students and teachers of the school to understand the various principles and practical techniques of radio communication, establish an amateur wireless station, communicate with their counterparts in India and abroad through air waves. This includes skill in geography, mathematics, physics, communication, etc. This event is supported by Mr. Mahindra Kannavar (VU2ZMK), Mr. Amey Pandit (VU2YQ), Mr. Arun C (VU3XYC) from GRAC and Mr. Tilroy Fernandes (VU3OUQ), Principal of Cuncolim United Higher Secondary School. Goa Radio Amateur Club (formerly GRAS) Goa Radio Amateur Club is formerly Known as Goa Radio Amateur Society (GRAS) is the oldest club of Radio Amateurs in Konkan and Goa Region. The club conducts various workshops and hands on training to Amateur Radio Operators (HAMs) and Short-Wave Listeners (SWL) for listening and communication in state-of-the-art technologies of digital and analog communication. The club helps the SWLs in obtaining the license and also new HAMs to set up the wireless station at their locations. Goa Radio Amateurs Society (GRAS) conduct the Light Ship and Light Houses Weekend annually. This event is an international event where an amateur wireless station is set up in the lighthouse and communicate to other HAMs across the world. Hill Top event is conducted across India every February 3 rd weekend which is considered as emergency preparedness test, picnic, outing with friends, etc. by various HAMs. These events are considered as the test for emergency preparedness of the HAMs. These events test the endurance, field worthiness and group cohesiveness of HAMs in Goa to set up a station and antennas for various bands and modes in short duration in inhospitable terrain.
