* Mario Socorro Pereira (b. 1958). Proprietor of PAULO TRAVELS. Husband of Lorna, father of Myron. Brother of Marchal/Lydia, Mira/Venancio Fernandes, Mecxy/Schubert Cotta, Melba/late Victor Rodrigues, Magno/Lena, late Menio/Rita, Milan/ Peter Alphonso. Tributes on the Net praised the former Britto (Mapusa) student who was the son of ex-MLA Teotonio Pereira, but worked the hard and innovative way to make PAULO TRAVELS a prominent bus brand, and a major player in the Goa market. The Paulo team he headed had buses (some train-like sleeper services) connecting many cities and towns across India, helping the people of Goa to reach distant destinations and tourists to reach here. Sometimes, against all the odds and political challenges too.

A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO TWO GOANETTERS who passed away recently: SILVIA BRAGANZA of Maputo, Mozambique and Santo Estevam, Goa. Artist, writer and widow of the late Aquino Braganza (a close aide of late Mozambique premier Samora Machel). Her book, a biography on Aquino -- Battles Waged, Lasting Dreams -- drew the attention of Goa and beyond to a son whom we had forgotten. SIMON D'SOUZA, the former Deputy Speaker of the Goa Assembly, was someone many knew as a politician. But he was someone who cared for the Goa we knew, a sportsperson (hockey), involved in many activities, and also one of the early persons selling computers at a time when hardly anyone knew what these machines were. Goanet will miss two of our valued readers. CONDOLENCES, REMEMBRANCES WILLIAM ALWYN FERNANDES, Holy Family Cathedral Parish, Kuwait City (1959-Sept 21,2020). He never hesitated to visit a patient at home, if the patient could not be brought to his clinic. For all the good he did during his life's journey, heaven will surely be good to him. Personally, I have lost a neighbour and friend, one or two years my senior, who played together on the Holy Spirit Church grounds. He was the simplest and most honest in our gang. I was surprised to see the many glowing tributes in the WhatsApp alumni groups of the 1972 batch both of Loyola and Holy Spirit schools. He was held in high esteem. May the grieving family be blessed with the fortitude to bear this sudden and unexpected loss. My sincere sympathies to each one of them.
