Southern Birdwing will conduct another WildGoa natural history field trip by boat, on Sunday, April 14.
Venue is the Cumbarjua river. Birds commonly seen there include the gery heron, purple heron, green heron, osprey, curlew, black-headed ibis, white necked stork, night heron, red shank, green shank, peregrine falcon, black winged kite, six species of kingfisher including the white-collared kingfisher which is only found in this river and the neighbouring Chorao island, apart from many other waders and raptors like the marsh harrier, eastern steppe eagle, booted hawk eagle, greater spotted eagle, lesser spotted eagle have also been seen. The Cumbarjua river is also natural habitat and home to the marsh crocodile, or Mugger. This trip will also include a session of mangrove replanting along the bank, in an effort to conserve the declining mangrove forests. The field trip commences at 7.30 am on Sunday from the fuel pump at the Cortalim ferry point, and ends at 11.30 am. Participants will be charged a nominal fee.
