In-depth research conducted at the Hebrew University in Israel has
convincing proof that Jesus Christ might have had Goan roots.
Below are some similarities between Jesus Christ and a typical Goan male:
- - Even after crossing thirty he still lived at his mother's house.
- - First chance he got, he turned water into wine
- - His mother believed he could do no wrong.
- - He had a holier-than-thou attitude.

Various doubts have often been raised on these Discussion Groups whether
Frederick Noronha is truly a Goan.
Many of the traits he displays are not typically Goan - pure vegitarianism,
pure logic... etc.
I have constantly defended Fred and argued that he is indeed very much a
Goan.
Below is my most recent argument:

2 Goans = 1 Club
3 Goans = 2 Clubs
Now Fred has been constantly, in print publications and on the Net,
praising the extensive collection of Goa related links on the
http://www.goa-world.net website. After all this he decides to have a Goa
related Links page of his own instead of joining hands with goa-world.net
and strengthening what already exists.
A truly Goan characteristic. Do not cooperate with fellow Goans. Compete
with them!
Conclusion: Fred is indeed Goan.

We, the undersigned are deeply distressed at the denotification
of the historic Provedoria building on 18th June Road, Panaji
vide Notification no. 40/9/2002/TCP/1219-4/4/02.
We are to understand that this building will be demolished
and replaced by a commercial high rise soon.
With this change from Institutional status to Commercial (C1),
the FAR of the building will now be increased from 60 to 200.
This will increase the pressure on infrastructure in the area,
cause increased congestion and create more traffic.
This is a decision that is hostile towards the city
and detrimental to its citizens.
The building is of architectural, social and cultural value
besides being a historic landmark in the area.
It is a fine example of Goan craftsmanship and is an excellent example
of the Indian Art Deco style of architecture. If your office demolishes the
building,
you will not only be destroying a heritage property
but also be destroying heritage intellectual property.
The shape and massing of the building lends itself to adaptive reuse.
A commercial use of the building can be made without demolition
and replacement by a high rise.
The building also enjoys a lynch-pin location and has three roads
on three sides lending it to maximum use. We are not against
the use of the building as a commercial complex, with food courts etc
in the existing courtyard but we feel that demolition and replacement
by a concrete block is not the most economical answer.
Kindly allow us to suggest alternatives
that are commercially viable and friendly towards the city.

India scraps visa-on-arrival plan for foreign tourists

The government of India has scrapped the proposed visa-on-arrival scheme for foreign
tourists on grounds of security.
This was disclosed by Rathi Vinay Jha, Secretary Tourism and Culture.
Talking to rediff.com after she had addressed a joint press conference with Director
General of Tourism V K Duggal to brief the media about the arrangements made for the
hosting of the Pacific Asia Travel Association meet in New Delhi to be held from April
14-18, Jha said that the decision in this matter was taken this week.
"The ministry of home affairs which had cleared the scheme last year after a careful
review of the security environment in the country after the terrorists attack on the
Indian Parliament on December 13 and the world security scenario after the September
11 terror attacks on the US, has decided that the time for launching of the scheme was
not proper. Hence, it is being shelved," Jha said.
In an interview to rediff.com, V K Duggal had said that the scheme would be
implemented and it is only a matter of time when the counters would be set up in Delhi
and Mumbai international airports to clear the tourists on arrival and give them
visas.
Last year the ministry of tourism had released the blueprint of the scheme under which
tourists from selected countries (which did not include Britain, the United States and
Canada) would be given visas on arrival at the Indian airports.
The Intelligence Bureau on the request of the Government of India had re-examined the
whole issue once again and decided against it.
Former US President Bill Clinton who was slated to attend the PATA conference as a
special delegate too cancelled his visit after the terrorist attack on the US
consulate in Kolkata.
"Mr Clinton cancelled his visit after attack on US office in Kolkata," Duggal said.
"The government of India would spend Rs 45 million to host the PATA conference which
would be attended by over one thousand delegates from 40 countries," Duggal said.
A delegation from Pakistan is also likely to participate in the PATA conference.
The agenda circulated amongst the media persons clearly lists a press conference to be
organised by the Pakistan High Commission during the conference.
Jha did not agree with the notion that the ministry was upset with the number of
beggars on the streets and had asked the Delhi government to ensure that beggars do
not hassle the delegates while they are in India.
"I would not say we are upset with the beggars. Of course, we are concerned about
their presence on the roads," she said.
According to Duggal, the private sector is also chipping in to reduce the cost of the
hosting such a big conference.
Special paid tours had been organised for the delegates who want to visit tourist
destinations during their stay in India. "We have tied up with Indian airlines to take
the delegates to various destinations," Duggal added.
Delhi's Connaught Place would be specially lit up during the period of the conference
and a band would be playing in the evening for the entertainment of the delegates.

Panjim, April 11: Just as they were settling down in the luxurious environs
of the Marriot Hotel on Miramar beach late this evening, came the bolt from
Hyderabad. And although BJP spokesman Sunil Shastri put up a brave face and
ruled out a change in the Gujarat leadership, senior leaders were evasive.
The writing, however, is clear on the wall as the party begins its national
executive tomorrow: the issue of Narendra Modi threatens to overwhelm
everything else.
Included in that ''else'' is the Budget and the link that many in the party
see between that and their severe setback in the recent polls.
As for Gujarat, right through the day, leaders downplayed it but by late
tonight, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu changed all that.
Many in the party are wondering about the timing of the TDP's resolution.
Said one leader: ''He could have done this last week or two weeks ago, why
a day before our national executive?'' Another said: ''This will embolden
the likes of Shanta Kumar who have been critical of what has happened in
Gujarat.''
Modi and other leaders from Gujarat are expected to reach tomorrow morning
when Vajpayee and Home Minister Advani too will arrive, just in time for
the office-bearers' meeting which is expected to set the tone for the next
three days.
All resolutions including the most eagerly awaited economic resolution will
be tabled on Saturday.
However, as it looks inwards at a difficult juncture, the BJP has turned
uncharacteristically unfriendly to the media. The venue is very inviting
but the hosts are not.
Access to the meeting rooms and senior leaders of the party has been
restricted. A strategy on when and how to brief reporters, most of whom are
stationed in another hotel four kilometres away, is being worked out.
Meanwhile the party's unit in Goa, led by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar,
has gone all out to roll out the red carpet for his bosses.
These are his days of reckoning too, the run-up to the Goa assembly
elections expected to be announced shortly.
As a kickoff to the campaign, or may be as a morale booster to the state
unit, arrangements have been made for a huge public rally at the Campal
Maidan, halfway between Panjim and Miramar, tomorrow evening.
''We are expecting a very good response. After all, we started the
tradition here of having huge rallies,'' said Parrikar while doing the
mandatory eve of the D-day rounds at the Marriot.
Goans, in their soce gado (take-it-easy) tradition, seem trifle amused by
so much activity that goes well beyond their work hours.
Panjim and Miramar have a sprinkling of the saffron-green BJP flags, there
are dozens of cars whizzing past the normally laid-back 32-km stretch from
the airport to Panjim, police presence is overwhelming and
like-never-before, say local citizens
