HELP MANDO FESTIVALS � II.
Since I am raising my voice on this subject I should not be made
responsible, however, still something is required from my side I will come
forward provided I am in position to do same. I do not want to be the
leader of this fund nor to be the custodian of this fund. Let everyone or
every organisation that is coming forward to raise funds for this cause take
the responsibility of their funds. And if any more discussion is required
it should be done only in the open forum as I will not discuss anything
privately. I want everyone to be aware of what is going on. There is no
secrecy in this. Let community be witness to our discussion for the good
cause.
Meantime, in Kuwait there are so many organizations, they have funds at
their disposal. Cannot they do something on their own behalf? Goan Welfare
Society is the biggest fund holder of Goan community in their kitty, to my
information they have around 25 lakhs of rupees. This is the money of
public collected by organising public functions in the name of Goa and
Goans. Why not a part of this fund should go for the good of Goan cause?
If they have Goan wish I am sure they alone can allocate the entire amount.
If they do so then they will not be doing any favour on me but they will do
their Goan duty towards their own Goa, their own language and their own
culture. If Goans are really Goans in these parts of the World then they
will come forward to help financially organising Mando Festivals in Goa.
Otherwise naming of their organizations with prefix and suffix as Goa and
Goan will be betrayal of Goa and such traitors we will not want amongst us
to promote Goa of course with fake Goan identity. I expect Goans to speak
out now and that too loudly.
Many of our Goan associations are having huge funds, these funds have been
collected in the name of Goa and Goans. The funds of some of these
associations are held in the account of one person or two or three. Here
lies the risk of these funds. If all the members of these associations are
together at one place then well and good but if some or more members are
left for Goa for good then they will forget to take interest in the funds
collected by them and deposited in the name of only one � two or three
persons. These persons having account in their name in such cases can
misuse these funds. Take for example the cases of our Goan Clubs (Kudd) in
Bombay. Because of lethargic attitude of some members those who were having
the custody of the Kudd and money turned mad and in that madness they not
only misused the Kudd funds but some of them even sold the Kudd without
letting known this to other members. In Kuwait there was one old Goan
association known as Kuwait Goans, so also another association �Goan Arts
Circle�. Kuwait Goan Association was having monopoly over all Goan
functions for about 20 years and during this long period they have
accumulated lot of funds. This association was active till the invasion of
Kuwait but after the liberation of Kuwait there is no news of this
association nor the amount it had in its kitty. Where that fund has gone
finally? Who is holding the custody of this fund? Once I even told one or
two members of this association to make use of their funds for the good
cause of Goa and community but nobody listened and because of this up to now
nobody knows whereabout of their funds. In view of this, all Goan
associations having their funds should think twice so that their funds are
not gone into the wrong hands or otherwise let it be utilized for good cause
now only before it is too late.

the goaworld.net-versus-goacom rivarly, which you seem to be working hard
to stoke up and take forward. I don't see the world in those terms. Sorry
to disappoint you mate. FN
PS: Thanks to your and some other quarters' efforts, the goa-world team
seems intent on not allowing us to work with them. What with the patently
false (but persistent) allegation that I was somehow behind the GoaToday
shift from GoaWorld to GoaCom. What are the motives behind your criticism,
Cecil?

Bird watching boat trip on Sunday April 14th

Southern Birdwing will conduct another Wild Goa natural history
field trip by boat, on Sunday, April 14. The venue is the Cumbarjua
river.
Birds commonly seen there include the grey heron, purple heron, green
heron, osprey, curlew, black-headed ibis, white necked stork, night heron,
red shank, green shank, peregrine falcon, black winged kite, six species
of kingfisher including the white-collared kingfisher which is only found
in this river and the neighbouring Chorao island, apart from many other
waders and raptors like the marsh harrier, eastern steppe eagle, booted
hawk eagle, greater spotted eagle, lesser spotted eagle have also been
seen.
The Cumbarjua river is also natural habitat and home to the marsh
crocodile, or Mugger.
This trip will also include a session of mangrove replanting along the
bank, in an effort to conserve the declining mangrove forests.
The field trip commences at 7.30 am on Sunday from the fuel pump at the
Cortalim ferry point, and ends at 11.30 am. Participants will be charged a
nominal fee.

Vajpayee blames Muslim radicals for spreading terror

Panaji, Apr 12 (IANS) Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Friday
blamed Islamic fundamentalists for attempting to grab the world and spread
their views through terror and fear.
"The world over, in countries where they are in large numbers, Muslim
fundamentalists don't want to live in peace," Vajpayee declared at a public
rally here.
Vajpayee is in Goa for a three-day meeting of his Bharatiya Janata Party's
national executive that began Friday.
Vajpayee also took a clear stand, favouring Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra
Modi, who has been under fire for his handling of the sectarian violence in
the state that has claimed at least 830 lives.
"Had the innocent, unarmed train passengers of the Sabarmati Express not
been burnt alive at Godhra, the communal crisis would have cooled down by
now.
"Investigations are on, intelligence agencies are still gathering evidence
about the perpetrators of the Godhra attack. But when we talk of the ensuing
communal killings, we should not forget who started it. Who started the
fire? Who spread it?" the prime minister asked.
Contending that countries the world over were waking up to the threat of
Muslim fundamentalism, Vajpayee said: "We tell them that there are a large
number of non-Hindus in our country but the Hindu tradition is believing in
the equality and co-existence of all religious communities.
"But countries where Muslims are in large concentrations fear terrorism and
fundamentalism. We say: 'Give them proper, constructive education in
madrassas (Islamic seminaries) but don't teach them to use weapons, teach
them non-violence,'" Vajpayee said.
In an oblique reference to the dispute over the ownership of the land in
Ayodhya where the destroyed Babri mosque stood, Vajpayee said: "Hindu kings
never plundered temples."
Criticizing the main Opposition Congress party for suggesting that the
country's secular fabric was threatened by the BJP's policies, Vajpayee
said: "We believe in unity from Goa to Guwahati."
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, addressing a party conclave in Guwahati
Friday, contended that the violence in Gujarat "is the most dangerous
assault on our secular polity and an India that is not secular will not
survive."
The prime minister referred to what he termed the "two faces of Islam.
"One is the Islam that traverses the path of truth and compassion. But
today's Islam often supports the slogan of jehad that wants to mould the
entire world in its own beliefs.
"Instead of peaceful propagation, they (Muslim fundamentalists) want to gain
a hold over the world by using fear, threats and terrorism," Vajpayee said,
adding that the world was "waking up" to this.
He also referred to the arrest of 15-16 members of the Al Qaida terrorist
group in Singapore, one of the countries he had visited during a two-nation
tour that concluded Thursday.
"Investigations are on in Singapore. In Indonesia and Malaysia and many
other countries, it has been found that Muslim fundamentalists don't want
peace. Now other countries are forming coalitions to fight against terror."
Pointing out that India had been suffering Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in
Jammu and Kashmir for years before the world woke up to the threat, he
asserted: "Jammu and Kashmir is a part of India and will remain so. Some
other country's dreams will not be fulfilled," he said in a reference to the
12-year insurgency in the state that India claims is backed by Pakistan.
