Today, in Forest Hills, DR. Sandra Flavia Braganza,
daughter of Anthony and Gloria Braganza of Sao Paulo
and New York, marries Alan Walter Bolton of Buenos
Aires and New York. Long supporters of our social
scene, they have also been keen benefactors in the
area of education. In a unique tale of many cities,
Tony studied in Margao, Belgaum and Bombay, lived in
Nairobi, London, Argentina and Brazil, all after being
born in Entebbe. However, his beloved Chandor
continues to be his favourite memory, along with parra
and miscoot ! Tonys brother Alfred was the the voice
to remember as the announcer and producer of the
evening Konkanni hour on the Bombay station of All
India Radio in the 60's, a fond memory for me.
Congratulations to the happy couple, and our best
wishes to the family. eric.

BOMBAY/MUMBAI * Goan food festival and extravaganza. Bombay Catholic
Sabha-GSU and Konkani Porjecho Sad are organising a Goan Fiesta 2002 at
Sarita Lawns, Good Shepherd Convent, Andheri (W) adjacent to Good Shepherd
Church, on 13th April 2002 from 6 pm onwards in aid of Crisis Intervention
Centre of Good Shepherd Convent. This Crisis Centre is run by the Good
Shepherd nuns and it involves sheltering, counselling, reconciling,
rehabilitating and remployment of battered women. The Goan Fiesta 2002 is
being organised by Agnelo Menezes who has organized many such evnts in the
past for various charities and trusts... This Goan Fiesta will have a lot
of food stalls covering all aspects of Goan cuisine, folk dances, Goan
music, mandos, plays, skits, etc, and will be well attended by celebrities
from Goa in various fields and disciplines to highlight Goan culture.

OBITUARY: Fr Carmino Menezes b. 1928 ordained priest 1964 died 31.03.2002
Fr Carmino Menezes, though originally from Goa, was brought up in
Indore. His father and elder brother were in the service of the Maharaja
of Jhabua. He had a colourful and adventurous priestly life. He was
diocesan secretary and procurator from 1968-71. For some years he was in
Europe and the US. As Secretary of the diocese he had made wide
contacts... He made use of his contacts and influence for the benefit of
the diocese and to help others. He retired from active ministry in
1988. After his retirement, he stayed in different places in Goa and
Bombay, and finally settled down in the retired priests home in

Jesuits of Madurai Province celebrate this year the golden jubilee of
their province. From 1542 to 1601 the Madura Mission was a part of the Goa
Province which commprised the whole of India and beyond.In 1608, Fr Robert
de Nobili, who hailed from a noble Roman family, opened a new residence in
Madurai and founded the well-known Madurai Mission of the Society of

Preface:
We are both Roman Catholics by choice.
This present sexual scandal involving the Church has
not only shocked us, it has also angered us. We do not
intend to change our practice of Catholicism because
of the awful dalliances of some deviant members of the
clergy. However, we intend to speak out against these
unscrupulous individuals who have not only violated
our trust but also the lives of the unsuspecting many
who were entrusted in their care. These predators are
a menace, and those in the hierarchy who covered up
for the predators unworthy of high office.
These predatory animals and their protectors have
effectively slapped the faces of millions of hard
working and devout Roman Catholic priests and nuns who
continue to make extraordinary sacrifices in the
service of the Church and others.
The eerie near-silence among many Catholics is
striking!. It is possible that they are still in shock
at these horrible revelations. It is possible that
there are those who are hoping that this is just a bad
dream. It is possible that they are just too ashamed
or afraid to speak out.
We are breaking this silence!

Subject: [Goanet] Citizens march against Gujarat killings
PANAJI (GOA) 13 April: Hundreds of citizens marched silently
through the
city today in a peaceful protest against the state-abetted
communal
killings in Gujarat. The march, organised by local NGOs under the
banner
of the 'Forum for Communal Harmony' demanded, among other things,
that
Gujarat's Narendra Modi government be dismissed and President's
Rule
imposed, that an inquiry under a sitting Supreme Court judge be
set up
to probe the Godhra and post-Godhra killings and punish the
guilty, and
that relief and rehabilitation measures be strengthened and
implemented
without discrimination. The forum also demanded that the Goa
government
immediately constitute a state human rights commission and a
state
minorities commission.
The march began at Azad maidan and wound its way through the
city's main
thoroughfares. Placards stating: "Mr PM - hide your face in
shame, not
from world leaders but from the women and children of Gujarat,"
"Stop
state-sponsored genocide in Gujarat" and "Bharat ki Parampara -
Shanti,
Sadbhav Bhaichara" were displayed prominently. An open letter to
Prime
Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was read out and unanimously
adopted at
the end of the march.
Prominent citizens who participated in the march were: Dr Claude
Alvares, Padma Shri Norma Alvares, Damodar Mauzo, Vasant
Karapurkar,
Gurunath Kelekar, Datta Damodar Naik, Aires Rodrigues, Dr Vikram
Patel,
Auda Viegas of Bailancho Ekvott, Sabina Martins of Bailancho
Saad,
Nishtha Desai of Children's Rights in Goa, Bernadette D'Souza of
Jan
Ugahi, Devanand Shirodkar of Rashtra Seva Dal, Shubhalakshmi Pai
Raikar
