Fabian was the type of model student that the teacher would not fault.
After studying in Don Bosco's he shifted to St Xavier's College, for the
higher secondary. We were part of the Commerce-and-Economics-with-Maths
class. You took that option if you were either a bit of a masochist or a
semi-studious type. The reason was that that Maths taught was bizarre...
specially from a non-Science students' point of view.
One day, in class, we all burst into laughter when a teacher asked Fabian
whether he was from the Seminary. (The Saligao Seminar had a nearby
residence, and would send its students to SXC. They were all typically
quiet, shy, often the specs-wearing types! Fabian was mistaken for one...)
When Fabian joined the police force, we found it hard to believe. That's
life...
Later on Fabian, while still in his early thirties, found he had cancer. As
a father of three young children, he fought a valiant battle. He could not
eat solids, and lost a lot of weight. All seemed to be going well till a
few weeks back. Pain in the lungs took him to a doctor, where he was told
that the cancer could have possibly spread.
Now in his late thirties, he's fighting a determined battle. All he's
asking for is your prayers... and I guess a few words of encouragement
would help. If you feel like it, please send him an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
It would be nice for Fabian to get a surprise as to where these good
wishes are coming from. Also please don't send this note around the Net,
lest it gets mistaken for another of those cynical scams that ask people
to send email to non-existant individuals. I know Fabian personally. --

Subject: [Goanet] Unofficial GoaNet FAQ - Update 1.01 (actually a bug fix)
I'm back after a refreshing weekend at my parents' house in Aldona. Away
from Computers Internet, Pseudo Animal Activists and Environmentalists.
My impromptu GoaNet FAQ seems to have met with a mixed response. I would
like to clarify a few points here.
1)
Ema Souza-Colaco questioned my 'description' of Viviana Coelho.
Let me state that I have exchanged personal e-mail with Mrs. Coelho since
many months back. We have had a lot of disagreements on matters and managed
to sort things out. I have nothing but the HIGHEST regard for Mrs. Coelho,
especially her light handed arbitration on posting matters. When she and
her husband Ariosto came down to Goa in January I had the pleasure of
speaking to them on the phone. Mrs. Coelho struck me as a wonderfully
delightful person. And she speaks even better than she writes. I even
invited them over for drinks and dinner in Panjim which they refused. So,
unforunately, we never actually met.
At Easter time I sent a photo (JPG -attachment) of myself, my wife Beatrice
and our two year old son Desmond to Mrs. Coelho. I asked her to send one of
herself, and family, back. Helps to put a face to a name. She refused and
so I have only HER OWN description of herself to use as a reference.
Below are some quotes from Mrs. Coelho's e-mails to me. Unlike Fred I do
not regularly forward PERSONAL e-mail to GoaNet but I am doing so
'selectively' now just to justify my description of Mrs. Coelho. I hope Ema
Souza-Colaco, and whoever else took offense, will understand. I am sure
Mrs. Coelho too will vouch for me. In fact she used my 'description' of her
recently while debating with George Pinto.
If anyone out there has a recent photograph of Mrs. Coelho please send it
to me so that I can make the required changes to her description in my FAQ.

Fred gets his panties in a knot over my 'bigoted' description of Tariq
Siddiqui.
I have never spoken or met Mr. Siddiqui. We have exchanged personal e-mail
just once when he appreciated a humour piece I had posted. He comes across
as a most straightforward and knowledgeable person with an ability to also
laugh at himself. Being a pretty good judge of character I can say that Mr.
Siddiqui is somewhere having a hearty chuckle at my description of him.
Whereas our friend the righteous Fred has taken the higher ground of
political correctness. Fred hands out a kerchief to Mr. Siddiqui to cry on.
A kerchief which was not asked for. Fred this posturising of your's does
not fool anyone. You think that by making a show of support to Mr. Siddiqui
you could scrore some brownie points with your 'mentors' and attract some
criticism of myself. Bah!
Mr. Siddiqui knows how to laugh at himself. But he is enjoying an even
heartier laugh at your fake concern for his NAME and the prejudices your
'politically correct' imagination assume accompanies it.
Years of living on that 'holier than thou' pedestal you have built for
yourself, Fred, has obviously pickled your brains and eyesight into seeing
'insults' and 'bigots' which do not exist.
Take a break, Fred. Go to Kathmandu. Live a poltically incorrect life for a
few weeks. Get all the knots out of your system. Come back refreshed.
Enough said!

CRC Chinchinim (Al Fardan Exchange) from Abu Dhabi won the 1st Dulsco All
India Football Tournament 2002 played at The Dulsco Grass Ground Al Quoz
Dubai. In the finals they defeated the SFX Old Goa by 2-1.
The finals was an all Goa affair. It was a closely fought contest since in
both the teams players representing India and Goa were contesting.
In the first minute SFX Old Goa took the lead through Peter, who scored
the goal. CRC, playing with a fine combination with Russel and Benny in the
front, and Orlando in the half had attacked and within two minutes they
equalised through Russell.
In the second half both the teams, showing spirited performance and good
skill tried hard to take the lead. At last Berry from CRC scored the goal
from 20 yards through a direct kick. Earlier in the semifinals CRC defeated
DHL Young Strikers and SFX defeated Zyco From Kerala.
The third Place went to DHL Young Strikers and fourth place to Zyco. For
the prize distribution ceremony Johnson Alexander, General Secretary of the
Dulsco Sports Club was the chief guest.
He gave away the prizes in the presence of Capt. Dutta,Manager for the
Northern Emirates for Dulsco, K.R.Sashidharan, Committee Member of the
Dulsco Sports Club and Shaik Rafik, Club Co-ordinator.
Johnson Alexander announced a major tournament for the expatriate
countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal will begin
from the April end. Ten teams from different part of the India participated
in this two-day tournament.
The other individual prizes: best player: Russell (CRC), First hat-trick:
Peter(SFX), highest scorer: Benny (CRC), best goalkeeper: Joodsen (Kerala
Boys )

It's about a teenage girl caught with a large drug haul in the UK. My
Swedish journalist friend says the girl got caught last Thursday, April 11.
"She came from Bombay via Z=FCrich and moved to Goa last year in order to s=

there. The trial will be on Friday at Manchester Juvenile
Court.... ," writes my friend.=20
Apparently, the mother and girl rented out their flat in Uppsala when they
moved to Goa last year. They like Goa very much and have spent five weeks
every Christmas-holiday in there the last few years.
Apparently the girl and her mother hade moved to Goa and were going to open
a restaurant there. They flew from South Asia via Zurich to Manchester
where whe got busted. She comes from Uppsala, according to what
information is available.
