LEGISLATION DEMANDED TO CURB CHILD TRAFFICKING.

An anti-child prostitution day rally was organised by Arz, an
NGO working on issues of prostitution-related trafficking at
Baina Beach red-light area and the Bal Vaishyavritti Virodhi
Andolan (Campaign Against Child Prostitution).
Displaying placards and banners, distributing pamphlets and
shouting slogans, the rally strongly protested against the
existence of brothel-based prostitution of children at the
Baina beach.
The issues highlighted were the dedication of children that is
being practised in Goa and the need to stop trafficking of
children into prostitution.
It was emphasised that children are misled into prostitution
by the functioning of strong and deep-rooted networks of
trafficking.
The rally demanded for an immediate end to child dedication
and prostitution in Goa, strict action against traffickers and
the creation of a Law against child dedication in Goa and
appealed to be general public not to participate in any form of
selling or buying children for purposes of prostitution and to
openly voice their protests against such happenings.
The well attended rally commenced at Baina Beach red-light
area, moved the streets of the city of Vasco, and wound up
at the Municipal Square.
Another rally was held in Panaji, which was followed by a
street play that vividly depicted the methodology of dedication
and prostitution of children, the atrocities and influence of
perpetrators in order to keep children enslaved in prostitution
and continue further trafficking and the community's
participation in initiating action against the same.
The rally concluded with a public meeting which was
addressed in English, Konkani and Kannada by Zarine
Chinvala, Director Arz, Podyappa Chalwadi, President-Youth
Wing of the Campaign Against Child Prostitution and Yelappa
Harijan, member of the Campaign Against Child Prostitution.
The speakers elaborated on the heinousness of the crime of
child prostitution and appealed for support in stopping
trafficking of children and all ongoing trial cases against
traffickers of minors, such as the Taravva Case. Later
pamphlets and a display of posters and banners was held at
the Panaji KTC bus stand.
