Hi Gilbert, you're absolutely right about the corruption of "malcurada".
"Mankurado" is absurd!
But then, Goans of today are ignorant of Portuguese language and suffer from
a tremendous lack of detail in most spellings.
So it is a lost cause to even argue about correct spellings (especially of
Portuguese words).
Most of us are too much sossegado to even know the difference.
(mind the correct spelling of the word "sossegado" !!!! Some of us still
know it !!! :-))

DEMAND TO IMPLEMENT OFFICIAL LANGUAGE ACT: The 23rd session of the All India
Konkani Parishad (in Mangalore) has demanded the immediate implementation of
the Official Language Act in Goa, besides to evolve a concrete programme to
unite Konkani speaking people spread in four states and thereby strengthen
the institution of the Parishad. (NT)
CONG CONTENDER FOR PANAJI SEAT: Dr Sushrut A Martins, consultant physician in
alternative medicines, is emerging as a strong contender for the Congress
party ticket for Panaji assembly constituency in the forthcoming mid-tem
poll. Dr Martins' main target is to defeat Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
and thereby liberate Goa from the stranglehold of bad governance. (GT)
ECOLOGICAL DANGER TO TEREKHOL RIVER: With uncontrolled sand extraction in
Terekhol river bed, villagers living on the banks of the river have expressed
fear that besides damaged to the eco system of the river, the fresh ground
water will get depleted, creating water shortage and therefore they want the
government to regulate the trade. (GT)
LAND CONVERSION CASE: The Panjim Bench of the Bombay High Court accepted the
report of the chief secretary in the matter of the petition filed by Dr Jose
Francisco Martins challenging the conversion of agricultural land for
non-agricultural use at Porvorim. (H)
VILLAGERS OPPOSE ARLEM FESTIVAL: More than 100 villagers from Arlem, Raia,
have urged the South Goa Collector to stop the annual five-day Arlem
festival, alleging that it was causing nuisance, traffic jams and noise
pollution in the locality. (GT)
ANTI-PLASTIC DRIVE: The Kamaxi High School at Shiroda recently launched an
anti-plastic drive in the village. (H)
SIOLIM RAT RACE: According to a report GT today, the heat is literally on in
the Siolim constituency, the former Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party bastion,
comprising of the villages of Siolim, Assagao, Anjuna and parts of Parra.
Ticket aspirants in the constituency are Dayanand Mandrekar (BJP),
Pandharinath Polle, Chandrakant Chodankar, Francis Fernandes, Dr Jawaharlal
Henriques, Milton Marques, Suhasini Govekar and Christopher Fonseca.
VOTERS TO DELIVER SHOCK TREATMENT: The voters of Goa are watching and
waiting. They would certainly come out this time, on Goa Statehood Day, in
large numbers to administer a historic shock treatment to major politicians.
The BJP has already lost the initial moral high ground and the advantage

BURGLARY IN NAVELIM: Thieves entered the house of Franklin Cardozo at
Culvaddo, Navelim, and stole cash and gold ornaments worth totally over Rs.4

FAKE GOLD BISCUIT: Maina Curtorim police on April 19 arrested one Ramu alias
Gangappa, a resident of Shimoga, reported to be the main accused in the fake

GOA'S URBAN GREENERY ISSUE: Goa's policies of having an abysmal public
transport system, while allowing four-wheelers and two-wheelers to flourish,
comes in for sharp questioning. Campaigns clearly made the point that

foreigner (Helen Alisa) near the Benaulim beach on Friday late evening. Alisa
was returning to her room with a shopping bag containing articles worth

WORLD BOOK DAY: Books to government and government-aided public libraries
will be distributed under Raja Ramohan Roy Library Foundation Matching Scheme

TIATRISTS RISE TO HELP ROSARIO: The stalwarts of the Konkani stage,
particularly khelltiatr, entertained a packed audience gathered for a grand
musical show at the Kala Academy theatre in Panjim yesterday evening. The
show was organised to raise funds in aid of their khelltiatr playwright and
director Rosario Rodrigues, who is suffering from cancer and is battling for
his life in a hospital in Mumbai. The show will be repeated at the GVN Hall

All-India Konkani Parishad, Mr Tanaji Halarnakar, has called upon the Konkani
society to be ever ready to accept the material challenge of the third
millennium, thereby conscious of studying every facet of modernization. He
emphasised that the Konkani people will have to strive to make Konkani
potentially strong in order to make it a language of business of the third

KHALAP TOO ON HIS WAY OUT? Will the Law Minister, Mr Ramakant Khalap, be the
next minister to quit from the cabinet and party? Indications of this became
clear on Saturday when his supporters from Mandrem and Pernem visited his

MAHAJAN CONFABULATES WITH RAVI, KHALAP: The Parliamentary Affairs Minister,
Mr Pramod Mahajan, yesterday air-dashed to Goa on an unscheduled visit to

distribution of party tickets. Party sources confide that serious differences
have cropped up between the old guard and new entrants. Two names specially

ROW OVER INDUSTRIAL WASTES: The villagers from Colvale, Madel-Tivim and
surrounding areas have demanded an immediate joint inspection by the

endangering lives on the day of the April 6 ODI cricket match have prayed

ROAD DEATHS: A woman from Bendwada-Sanguem died on the spot while another was
seriously injured, after a speeding truck ran over the two women, barely 100
metres away from their houses. A person traveling in a mini-truck laden with
bricks, was crushed to death after the vehicle rammed against the rear of
stationary bus at Panzorcone-Cuncolim. A motorcyclist from Talsai-Dharbandora
died in a road mishap at Pale on Thursday. A 25-year-old woman from
Dharbandora-Sanguem died as she was proceeding to her sister's house at

CUSTODY OF DACOITS: More then a week has passed since the police in Margao
have taken the custody of two alleged dacoits from Andhra Pradesh police in
Hyderabad, but have failed to detect any of the dacoity cases committed in

WATER SHORTAGE IN DIVAR: Divar may be surrounded by water, but residents of
the island are faced with erratic water supply for over a month. Residents

Companies, released their first export consignment of ornamental plants
recently. The company bagged an export order for ornamental plants from a
USA-based biotechnology firm and entered into an agreement on regular

WEBSITE OF RURAL BAZAR: the website of Rural Bazar Goa was launched by the
Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, at the District Rural Development
