Subject: [Goanet] Kidnapping victim rescued - Almost Live Report
We are standing here outside Boston Public, Boston, USA. A school made
famous by David E. Kelly. But what has drawn the crowds here today is the
building opposite where a young man has been rescued from a brazen
kidnapping. There he is now being brought out my the medicos in a
stretcher. None other than our very own Herman Carneiro. The Unofficial
Herman Carneiro Fan Club has turned up in full strength with a Goan Brass
Band and some sexy cheerleaders. As Herman's stretcher is brought out they
break into their chant...
"Herman is da man
Herman is da man
What's others can't do
Herman caaaan
Yaaaaaay!"
Policeman:
"Hey you can't just break through the yellow tape like that"
Cecil:
"I'm Cecil Pinto reporting almost live for Goa-world.net"
Policeman:
"Does'nt matter. We have rules here in this country"
Cecil:
"We have tape in our country too. Red tape. But we know how to get past
that. Will 100 rupees do?"
Policeman:
"What's the exchange rate?"
Cecil:
"48 to 1 or nearby."
Policeman:
"48 dollars to the rupee!"
Cecil:
"Something like that"
Policeman:
"Let this man through to the stretcher. He's rich!"
Cecil:
"Hello Herman. Can you hear me?"
Herman:
"Barely"
Cecil:
"Was it a bad experience?"
Herman:
"Just one room and an attached bathroom and a kitchen. Cable TV, phone, but
no Internet connection."
Cecil:
"You describing my rented studio flat in Panjim?"
Herman:
"No stupid. The place where I was kept"
Cecil:
"What's so bad about a studio apartment?"
Herman:
"No Internet! No Internet! I could'nt browse. Could'nt post. It was hell!"
Cecil:
"Let's not waste time. There's one question everyone wants to ask."
Herman:
"Who kidnapped me?"
Cecil:
"No! Why did you put that curse-word filter on GoaNet?"
Herman:
"Oh that! See I was just 17 when I started GoaNet so I had to put that
filter to stop any legal complications for myself. And here in the USA
they're very particular about minors and state lines."
Cecil:
"But now that GoaNet has matured don't you feel that filter has to be
removed. We are all adults now."
Herman:
"I was planning to remove the filter. It had outlived its purpose. That's
when I was kidnapped"
Cecil:
"Now for the other important question"
Herman:
"Who rescued and released me?"
Cecil:
"No! What's the difference between a Founder, an Owner, a Moderator, and
Administrator, A Chairman, a CEO and ...."
Policeman:
"Hey Pinto! My friend says that the rupee is practically valueless! "
Cecil:
"Those are new five rupee notes my friend. Worth their weight in gold. Ask
anyone if they have seen a clean new five rupee not in Goa in the last 3
years. Just give me one more minute."
Herman:
"Don't you want to know abut my kidnapping?"
Cecil:
"Ok! Ok! Since you insist. Who kidnapped you?
Herman:
"The Penguin and the Joker"
Cecil:
"Who released you?"
Herman:
"Batman and Robin"
Cecil:
"Why were you kidnapped...."
Policeman:
"Hey you! Out! Out! And take your lousy rupees you
asteriskasteriskasteriskasterisk......."

Paulo has a point but language, just like fashion, cuisine, customs,
behaviour, Windows etc. are part of an evolutionary process and develop.
So we have:
Sunila: Mankurado
>crap compared to the Goan Mankurado. Anyone want to debate that ???
*After all she was quoting from the Times of India article which read:
>This year, the Mankurado mango is far beyond the reach
Gilbert: Malcurada
>malcurada, which is a corruption of the portuguese "malcorada".
Paulo: Malcurada
>Hi Gilbert, you're absolutely right about the corruption of "malcurada". "Mankurado"
>is absurd!
Fred Noronha: Mankurad
> Mankurad originally called Malcorado by the Portuguese, meaning 'poor coloured'.
See: The Week May 17 1998
http://www.the-week.com/98may17/biz2.htm
Fred also wrote:
> For Nandkumar M. Kamat, a microbiologist, mangoes are an obsession
Joel D'Souza agrees with Gilbert: Malcurada
the succulent king of fruits--malcurada mangosee
www.goacom.com/goanow/2000/may/edwords.html
delicious malcurada see
www.goacom.com/goanow/99/may/editorial.html
However, the commonly used term seems to be Mankurad. Two scientific
articles:
Cardozo Mankurad - A Breakthrough In Mango Selection
www.actahort.org/books/455/455_31.htm
Variation In Physico-Chemical And Morphogenetic Characters Of Some Mango
Varieties Of Goa.
www.actahort.org/books/509/509_25.htm
Just to be different, The Herald had Mancurad on 12 Apr 2002 at
www.oherald.com/Archives/fri_12apr.htm
.. And rava fried prawns are on the prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's
wish-list,during his three day stay in Goa, with mancurad mangoes
However, I think that the Goa mangoes are over-rated. If they are that
good, how is it that they are not cultivated in the rest of India? Why are
they not exported?
I far prefer the alphonso or is it the alphonse?
