We have a small cheque for the school in Ponda, they
earned it by giving us Suneela !! Need address.
Whilst on the subject, Ponda is also Fonda to
Goans, and, depending on the mood you in, Fondya too:
both mean the same thing, a lagoon, as does fonda in
olde Saxon english, which brings us back to the common
origin of our Indo-European tongues, to Egyptian
Coptic and that narrow escape route along the Galilee
that took the Kaltics ( Celtics ! ) north to Turkey.
One can trace the evolution of Europe's languages as
those old Nile rafters sailed up the Danube from its
Turko-Moldova estuary:it's called the Dunay(doonay)
there, Doonarea in Romania, Doonav in Bulgaria, Doona
in Hungary, Donau in Austria. Vestido, Vestament,
Vestama(sanskrit) go back to that common origin, as do
denta-teeth, agni-ignite, do-dos, sete, oito,nove,
dix, none of the great mass of similarity has any
connection with the arrival of the Portuguese language
on our coast ten thousand years later. Yes, Suneela
dear, guilty again, we took Sassasta( sixty villages)
and turned it to Saxxtee and Salcette, and if sesseste
means the same thing on the Algarve, the coincidence
is as pure as the salt from the salteiros the
Phoenicians first established on the Portuguese coast.

2002 GOAN ELECTION.
Finally the date for the election of Goa Legislative Assembly has been fixed
as 30th of next month. As usual all the former �Chor ani Bamtte� MLAs will
try to contest the coming election either on the same parties or
independents or new parties. Whom the voters will elect and on what basis?
In his masterpiece �If I Am Asassinated� written from the death cell by the
former premier of Pakistan Zulfikar Ali Bhutto wrote �My sons will not be my
sons if they don�t shed the blood of those who dare to shed mine. Who are my
sons? Shanawaz and Murtaza (both real sons of Bhutto) and all the sons of
Pakistan are my sons�. Till his death Gen. Zia who was responsible for
hanging Bhutto had to face problems from the sons of Pakistan till his death
in a plane crash. Based on the statement of Bhutto let me say from Kuwait in
a small room where I stay �My Goan voters will not be Goans voters if they
don�t destroy in the coming election all the defectors and �Chor & Bamtte�
MLAs who dare to destroy Goa by defecting from the elected party symbol to
other parties that bribe them with huge money power and loot Goa. Who are
the Goan voters? They are the real and genuine Goans who have great love for
the good of Goa�. If today Goa is seized by the worst communal party BJP
then the major culprit is Sardinha who allowed Parrikar and his BJP key to
open the door for worst communal party to rule Goa. Goa had unique
distinction to be a model of communal harmony and as such communal party
like BJP should not have place in Goan politics. Sardinha should be
punished severely in the coming election and who will punish him? If
Curtorcar voters are really Curtorcares then they will show their wisdom.
It is Curtorcares who were deceived and cheated by Sardinha. Congress party
should be forced to deny ticket to Sardinha to contest the coming election
on its ticket. Sardinha will go down in the history of Goa as worst than
Judas, it is a shame to have such a MLA in any constituency. Likewise all
the defectors should be denied tickets and if they still persist and succeed
in getting tickets from the same parties then people power should be used
and it should be used very forcefully. It is a turn now of �Demos� to use
their �Kratia� in a right way. It is not enough just to talk saying Goa is
going to dogs but to avoid it further going to dogs people must rise to the
occasion and throw out all the defectors and Chors and Goondas. The
constituents must not allow to foist on them the candidates not of their
choice. The constituents must join together to stop the political parties
to foist their choices on their heads. It is time now for the constituents
to stop the party bosses in Panjim and Delhi to impose their choices on
people against the wishes of the people. Constituents must stop acting like
�ghantta boils� and fight for their rights to select right candidates.
Every time our MLAs fool us. Once they get elected they take full liberty
of the confidence voters given them and thus they make ill use of it. One
of the reasons for them to take power in their hands is there is no
alertness on the part of the voters. When they defect the voters take it
lying down, neither their parties come out openly to condemn and raise
public awarness. I remember when first time in Goa 5 UGP MLAs defected to
MGP, Jack Sequeira organized public meetings in all the 5 constituencies to
condemn them and make the local constituents aware of the wrong they did for
their confidence. Valent Sequeira from Calangute constituency was one of
the defectors, he had a small gotie type of beard. While delivering his
public speech attended by huge crowd at Calangute soccer ground, Dr.
Sequeira asked �where are the all the prominent people including the doctor
who were telling me to give ticket to Valente Sequeira? Why they don�t now
go after Valente Sequeira and shake him by his beard?�. Then he uttered
these words to the utter astonishment of the crowd �Khuim assa re to
bokddeachea khaddacho tumcho Valent Sequeira? Cholat re ani dhorat re
tachea khaddak ani haddat re taka hangasor�. Fearing the worst, Valente
Sequeira was hiding at Candolim in a secret location away from his house.
But such a pressure is not coming now on our defectors because people and
our voters are also become corrupt for accepting corruption. The so called
social workers are also become dormant because they are also wanting to
contest the elections because they feel only from the Legislative Assembly
they can change the society. It is not true. By not contesting the election
Mahatma Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan brought revolution in India. It is a
turn now of real social workers and real lovers of Goa to do something to
awaken the public conscience so that good and reliable people are elected.
The Church must also come on fore. Because of Church silence for so long we
Catholics in Goa were at receiving end. It is not enough for the Church to
issue statement occasionally to show its disgust on the corrupt political
scenario in Goa. Church must use its pulpit and other forum to raise its
voice against all the barbarity going on in Goa leading to sinful life which
Church must avoid. The purpose of Church is to guide the people in right
path for the ultimate heavenly goal. But by being silence over the
disgraceful acts of politicians and political parties Church is encouraging
sinful life in Goa. If Church does not step in now then BJP will surely
regain power and then they will destroy established Church and Church goers
in Goa. If church does not openly come forward by preaching the gospel of
political justice then Goa will turn into Soddom and Gomorrah and then
posterity will hold the Church responsible for not doing Its duty when It
was required to do. By using the forum of platform Martin Luther King in
America challenged and destroyed the might of brute apartheid though he
sacrificed his life for voicing his gospel of truth and justice. Can our
priest do that and even if they are willing to do, will the Church authority
at Altinho allow them? In the past even though silently and at times Church
leaders and clergy played a very good role in protecting Goa and Goans from
very many disasters. But now Church must come out openly and challenge the
brute might of money and goonda power of the disgraceful candidates. If at
this critical juncture Church remains silent then Church will be doing great
injustice for the protection of Goa and Goans. As its is Goa is getting
degoanised and losing its pristine greatness and genuiness. The Roma
Udentichem is going to dogs because Ghantti Udentiche are capturing every
piece of Goa. They are all out to destroy Goa and Goans and in this pursuit
they are helped by Church goer defector politicians, corrupt politicians and
those who practice Narvenkarism. Till recently Narverakism, Godinism,
Sardinism, Parulenkarism and all ism were unknown to Goa. In order to
destroy all these �ISM� we must come forward and destroy all the mentors of
�ISM�.
While Goa is burning due to the upcoming political events, what will be the
role of expatriate Goans who are craving for the good governance in Goa?

Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event
to be held on 26th April will have a
discussion on the proposed legislation by Goa Govt.
on mandatory pre-marital HIV testing.
Positive People an NGO working on issues of
HIV-AIDS will make a presentation on the
possible advantages and disadvantages of such
legislation if enacted.
The discussion will cover issues such as the Supreme Courts decision
regarding right to marry, whether such legislation will help protect
the Institution of marriage and protect innocent victims especially
Women / Children. and to what extent will it inculcate
responsible sexual behaviour among the masses.
The discussion will also examine whether the proposed legislation has the
potential to violate the civil rights and confidentiality of the infected
person.
Will it result in the misuse of the law by people and promote bribing
for a negative HIV certificate. What about couples that marry outside Goa ,
as other states do not have such law and how do the NACO guidelines
respond to mandatory testing are some of the questions that will be
tackled during the session.
Friday Balcao will be from 4pm to 6pm
at the Goa Desc Resource Centre
