1) Which "incorrect description" are you referring to? And even assuming
that there was one, that "incorrect description" (whatever it is) does by no
means prove that "mankurad" is correct; yes, it has entered the current
Konkani (and, by way of it, also the current English) vocabulary and we have
to bow to it, but having to bow to it and to accept it does not prove its
correctness. 2) "Malcorada" (not "malcorda") did never get changed to
"mancurada". It is in colloquial Konkani that the variety came, with the
passage of time, to be called "mangcurad" or "mangkurad" and now became
"mankurad".

You have proved your point that "in some markets, such as the United Kingdom
and the United States, a red blush ... is preferred". But it was not the
Britishers nor the Americans but the Portuguese who named the variety
"malcorada"; and it has not yet been proved that the Portuguese also
preferred a red blush to yellow, and so I maintain what I said earlier, that
"nobody seems to know why such a name was given to it". - And what about the
word "coloration"? "Coloration" and "colouration" are both found in an
English dictionary, so they are both acceptable (perhaps "coloration" is
more used in the U.S. and "colouration" in the U.K.).

Dear cybergoans,
I apologise(profusely) for starting this long, argumentative,
endless, and ridiculous discussion about mangoes, a week ago, with a
seemingly innocent post about malcurada mangoes, which are going at
Rs. 200 a doz. in the margao market today, a price which I can ill
afford, because I like to go through 3 at 1 sitting. Hope the season
is better next year. regards--Gilbert.

Sunila Muzawar writes:
[If reporting (and by reporting I mean news and views
here) was more balanced we would have heard of Godhra
before the revenge on Muslims took place. We would
have heard of the hundreds and thousands and hundreds
of thousands of Hindus being killed in Kashmir EVERY
DAY in the name of religion.]
Dear Sunila,
I agree with the point made (above) by you.
I am glad that you used "Fred Noronha & Co" as a
generic term to = reporters & not Fred and Joel
specifically. I believe (surely, you too) that they
and their journo colleagues do a wonderful job from
our little Goa despite the challenges that small, far
from the centre, places present..
There are all kinds of "skewers" who will skew the
news to their own advantage.
On a personal level, I do NOT support "skewers".
It is impossible for me to support extremists from any
religion, country, whatever, especially the ones who
see NO wrong that their OWN do but Holler at the top
of their voices when a mouse from their political or
emotional rival/competitor crosses their path.
BTW: those who made noise about the Staines' burning
need to be commended for their noise.
While those who blamed the Church bombings on the
Sangh Parivar, need to apologize for being distinctly
prejudicial - automatically thinking that IF any group
bombs Christian Churches...it MUST be HINDU.
If they haven't apologized yet.....there is still
time!
And.....ALL of us need to condemn the ethnic cleansing
going on in Kashmir...where both Hindus & Muslims are
losing lives.
Lives which could have been used productively.
I hope....one day...this hate will end, and we will
resume our lives with our resolve to do(legally &
ethically) the best we can for ourselves and our
family.
