And rightly so !!! I will focuss on that.

No secret about that !

How can it when organised religion and our political system simply
encourages it ?
>The Rt. Wing Hindus (like their counterparts, the
>Islamic, Jewish and Christian extremists ) have opened
>up the wounds all over again.
Actually include the Rt.Wing Muslims, the Rt.Wing Sikhs, and the Rt.Wing
Christians in the lot who have opened the wounds all over again. After all
you cannot forget Kashmir, the North-east, Godhra, etc.
>Somehow, it appears that the more extreme the

Errrr.....excuse me but what funds are you talking about ? The Finance
Minister has finally admitted that the Gujarat carnage has affected
investment and the economy adversely
>This thing in Gujarat is an absolute shame. I hope
>some of us are proud of it.
I hope you meant "none of us are proud of it". Well how can one be proud of
senseless killings in the name of religion and false egos ? Nevertheless I
am sure we will have those kind in all communities.
>Not Moi!
Wow ! I hope that means you aren't proud of course. ;-)

Whose Papa is Atal ? Not mine ? Is he yours ? I understand he is a bachelor

........
Didn't see your point in pasting the horrible wails and moans of the Muslim
victims in Gujarat.....if you wanted us to shudder well let me tell you that
I have been shuddering from the very first day that the burning in Gujarat
began. One doesn't need to read this stuff to know what hell these poor
people have been thru.
Maybe the point you were trying to make is that you only know of these
emotional outpourings. You probably haven't read or heard or thought about
those of the Sikhs, Kashmiri Hindus, North East Hindus, low caste Hindus,
Kashmiri Buddists, etc. Or maybe the point you were trying to make is that
the moans of the victims of Godhra which considering the carnage began with
this incident are not worth listening to since they were specifically
absent, considering this was an essay on the Gujarat carnage. Or maybe you
were trying to show us how people put blinders as and how it suits them i.e.
when it is not their community or interests affected.
All in all I agree that the Gujarat carnage should be condemned. But I also
condemn all the other carnages including the ongoing one in Kashmir, the
North-East, Bihar, UP, etc. Can I hope for the same from you ?
Cheers,
Sunila

Also do you know the name of the Lisbon agent your mechanic acquaintance

Arundhati Roy vs Noam Chomsky. Hmm!
This should make for a very interesting discussion on the net. Other than
reading her very enjoyable novel "The God of small things" and her
involvement in the Narmada Dam, I know very little about this person who
seemingly enjoys international acclaim. Have you read her book "Power
Politics"? She apparently takes on the privatization of Indias power supply
by Enron (this is prior to Enron's collapse). I am glad that India can boast
this type of character.

Subject: [Goanet] PARRIKAR SENSES IMPENDING DEFEAT
A month from today the people of Goa will exercise their franchise to elect
their new MLAs. In spite of all his high-handed tricks and gimmicks it is
certain that Manohar Parrikar's BJP regime will finally come to an end.
The Chief Minister already senses the impending rout. A desperate Parrikar
is stooping to unprecedented levels to avoid the inevitable humiliation. He
is attempting to sponsor independent candidates to divide the opposition
votes. However, with the anti-BJP wave raging , we will have to endure the
sinister designs of the Chief Minister for just another month.
A new Government should not normally waste time introspecting into the acts
of the past government. But in this case the magnitude of the damage done to
Goa's unique secular fabric should not stop the in-coming Government from
taking steps to undo the colossal damage done to the State. The new
Government's priority should be to undo the saffronisation of the Goa
Administration and restore this State to its original colours.
Mr Parrikar has exceeded his limits in all respects. He failed to realise
that we are in a democracy and that one cannot dictatorially bulldoze one's
fanatic ideas and passions on the people at large.
He even went to the extent of abolishing October 2nd, Mahatma Gandhi's
birthday as a public holiday in Goa though it is one all over India. Given
the choice he would have replaced our country's tri-colour national flag
with a saffron one.
As part of his tactics Mr. Parrikar announced some unrealistic populist
programmes to hoodwink the public. The Dayanand Social Security Scheme is
just one of these scams. The Chief Minister ensured that the beneficiaries
were chosen by the MLAs and his party workers. It is a matter of shame that
a scheme that should have been administered by the State was controlled by
the MLAs. The MLAs were visiting the villages distributing the cheques as
a way to keep the people indebted to them. The true and needy beneficiaries
are left high and dry as they have no access to the powers to be.
Parrikar has systematically gunned down, displaced and eliminated people of
the minority communities from key Government positions. A look at the
bureaucracy today compared to the complexion before he took over reveals the
evil venom the RSS cadre Chief Minister Parrikar has unleashed on this State
of ours.
On May 30th when the people of Goa speak decisively and cast their verdict,
Mr Parrikar will have to seek a place of alternate refuge. A Kar-sevak at
Ayodhya could be an appropriate destination. And perhaps the rash and
negligent Governor Mohammed Fazal who acted without application of mind in
prematurely foisting another election on our cash scrapped State could keep
him company.
