Views posted on the Hindustan Times

Balance. The selected 10 posts indicate some of the
views on the Gujarat fiasco.
What are your views?

Hindustan Times:
Gujarat is burning. Gujarat needs help. The social
fabric has been destroyed by a spate of communal
violence and its economy is in a shambles. Express
your feelings about Gujarat's dilemma and send in your
suggestions on how peace and properity can return to
this state.
1.
The barbaric and incessant killing spree using even
the electoral rolls to target a particular community
is nothing but genocide. The very existence of RSS is
built on the edifice of anti-minoritism.
Golvakar, the founder of RSS, in his book We our
nationhood explicitly says that all the non-Hindus
should either adopt Hindu culture or live subservient
to Hindus.
In short, Muslims have all along been identified as
foreigners and thus should be exterminated, is the
mood created by the Sangh outfits.
The current carnage in Gujarat is in line with this
thinking, using the tools of hatred, lies and negative
propaganda.
All the right thinking persons will denounce the
Godhra attack and the subsequent carnage in Gujarat.

The Gujarat Government and its people are worse than
Nazis. Nazis never indulged in killing infants and
pregnant women. If I had my way, I would hang the
entire Gujarat Cabinet starting with the Governor of
Gujarat. I know Narendra Modi is hand in glove with
the killers, but what about the Governor? It's
disgusting and frustrating to be an Indian Hindu.

The BJP/RSS/Bajrang Dal are ruining my investments in
India. They are hurting business. They have to go and
I think the businessmen (who were ironically BJP's
biggest supporters) will see to it that the BJP gets
wiped out in the elections next year. The BJP dug
their own grave in Gujarat.

During the partition era, Muslim extremists compelled
Hindus to leave Pakistan and hundreds of thousands of
Hindus also died in the carnage. Damage was done to
both sides.
But, let's look at the facts after the partition.
India has had one of the most aggressive and ambitious
affirmative action programs in the world. The results,
while far from perfect, have produced many top level
Muslim leaders in various capacities in India, and a
growth of Muslims as a percentage of total population.
But in Pakistan, the Hindu population has decreased
from 11per cent in 1947 to around 1 per cent today, as
a result of ethnic cleansing.

Looking at the views of the people around, I am
literally shocked. Earlier, I used to be a strong
supporter of India. I never used to care about a bunch
of goons like the VHP, RSS and the Bajrang Dal.
They can only strike in groups and on unarmed people.

I really wonder what has happened to the moral fibre
of India, to public opinion, to the so-called
intelligentsia. Why are'nt we seeing more protests in
the country?

I have been in the US for more than 25 years and met
and worked with several Hindu Gujratis. With the
exception of a few of them, most of them carry
communal feelings against Muslims.
Indirectly they are responsible for riots in Gujarat
by raising funds in US for BJP, RSS and VHP.
On one hand they are very soft spoken and put large
banners during Eid to attract Muslim customers but
privately, they despise Muslims.
I think it is time for some honest God-fearing Hindu
Gujratis to speak out and stop funding these rascist
organizations. Remember all of us have to answer to
God for our deeds here on earth.

Save and strengthen the hands of Modi, not the country
at this moment. Once he becomes stronger, he will make
the country stronger also.
He is the only one who can make this country real
Hindu State after getting rid of the so called
minorities.
Goodluck our beloved Prime Minister of the future.

It is clear that the Indian English media is filled
with pseudo-journalists in the same way as most
political parties are filled with pseudo-secularists.
It is true for places of higher learning with many
pseudo-universities and pseudo-intellectuals.
In addition we have pseudo-statisticians on topics
like India's development versus say China's. This is
exactly the reason India is still among world's
poorest countries.
Compared to India, China is a real country. The
Chinese have settled enough ethnic Chinese in Muslim
areas that soon ethnic Chinese will be a majority .
But Muslims in China would not dare to do the kind of
things Muslims in India do, like the Godhra incident.
Number of people killed by the Chinese Government
because of their ideology was not suited with state
ideology runs into tens of millions. That has never
been the cause of concern for foreign investment.
China is receiving far more foreign investment than
India. Which clearly shows the world likes results,
not idle arguments and talks. The net result is
Chinese living standard is higher than Indian living
standard.
Therefore a strong majority government of the BJP,
VHP, RSS type will bring far more discipline and
safety in India and attract more foreign investment.
Therefore, it is about time Indian people take the
matter in their own hand and send away all these
secularists to Pakistan.
This will make India a real nation, instead of
pseudo-nation, commanding respect in the world.

Do not unnecessarily blame Gujarat. Muslims are
creating trouble all over the world. Why don't you ask
Kashmiri Pandits, Punjabi Hindus and Sindhi
Hindus? Please do not worry about our international
image as we Gujaratis are well established by our own
strength and not by you guys in India. So please stop
advising Gujaratis. Without Gandhi there would have
been no `azadi' and without Patel, India would not
have been India. Vijay Acharya [EMAIL PROTECTED]
10.
I am a Lecturer of Pakistan Studies at a college in
Lahore, Pakistan. My parents(mother from Delhi and
father from Rewari, Rajasthan) migrated in 1947 as
they were compelled to do so by Hindu fanatics. They
had no option but to leave their respective cities and
during this process thousands of innocent Muslims were
killed by Hindu fanatics.
In January this year, L K.Advani had proposed the
confederation between India and Pakistan. The whole
history of India, especially after the partition in
1947, shows that Muslims in India have been targeted
and they are far less in every field of life, despite
the fact they have 15 per cent ratio of population.
Look, honestly at the numbers of riots numbers of
Muslims killed barbarically, numbers of Muslim
employees, their standard of living in India, and also
analyze the real facts about Hindu community living in
Pakistan and Bangladesh. Who is secure, safe and
sound? Muslims in India or Hindus in Pakistan and
Bangladesh?
I am shocked at how the common common Hindus have
barbarically targeted the Muslims and burnt and
tortured the Muslims. How was the police inactive, how
were the law and order enforcement agencies
indifferent? We are proud that we always regard and
respect the minorities living in Muslim countries. It
was the fear among the Muslims of India that after the
British Raj, Hindu fanatics will make the Muslims
3rd-rated citizens and the Hindu fanatics have proved
it.

Does anybody care about this ? Or are we going to say that these children
are coming from the majority or minority or this religion or that religion
or this caste or that caste, or whatever and ignore it since it does not
affect us ?

Innocence assaulted: The trauma of child workers
Bangalore, May 1
Fourteen-year-old Chitra was found with burn marks all over her body after
her employer abused her with heated steel rods. Reshma, 12, had boiling
water and hot oil poured over her if she was late for work.
The two girls are among hundreds of Indian children who work as domestic
helpers and are ill-treated or even tortured by their employers, social
activists say.
"They used to physically abuse me. They poured hot water on my face if I did
not wake up in time or poured boiling water on my back and hot oil on my
knees and thighs," said Reshma, who now lives in a children's home in
Bangalore.
Around 6,000 juveniles in the city, most of them girls aged under 15, are
housed in homes run by non-governmental organisations after being rescued
from their employers by activists.
One children's helpline in Bangalore receives at least four to five calls
each day from young domestic helpers who say they are being abused by their
employers. "Of the more than 6,000 calls we received over the last three
years about 2,000 of them relate to domestic helpers being in trouble," said
S. Padma, who works for the Children's Helpline.
Some children are locked up for days or suffer verbal and physical abuse
from their employers, who are often wealthy middle-class families.
Shashikala, 11, the daughter of a labourer, was employed by a couple working
for the state-run Karnataka State Finance Corporation to cook, clean the
house and wash clothes. "I was beaten and bitten by the woman for not
cooking on time or when her children complained about me," she said.
"If I used to cry loudly she used to stuff clothes into my mouth and I was
not allowed to go out of the house. I complained to the neighbours about the
treatment meted out to me."
After being alerted by one of the neighbours, social activists took
Shashikala to a police station to register a complaint and placed her in a
children's home.
Eventually the couple was suspended by their firm, but no police action has
been taken against them. There is no law which stops people employing
children as domestic helpers, although government employees are not allowed
to hire children under 14.
But there are no stringent penalties for violating the rule, activists said.
"There are instances of girls found dead by hanging in the house of an
employer and others dying of burns. Will any girl hang herself or burn
herself to death?" said Mathew Philip, Executive Director of the South India
Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring.
"The government must notify domestic child labour as hazardous." He said
there were strict rules on employing children in other areas, such as
factories, in the Child Labour(Prohibition and Regulation) Act and the
Juvenile Justice Act.
The Child Labour Act bars children below the age of 14 from working in
"hazardous" industries such as fireworks and glass-manufacturing.
It is not just girls who are victims. One boy, Sridhar, as punishment for
stealing sweets had his hands tied and wrapped in a cloth which was doused
with kerosene and set alight, activists said.
Lakshapathi Reddy, director of the Association for Promoting Social Action,
said most of the children who were domestic helpers were from very poor
families. "In the majority of cases there is no money paid to them for their
services. They are just given food for their survival," Reddy said.
He said an umbrella organisation, Campaign Against Child Labour, which is
made up of more than 300 groups across the country, planned to stage protest
marches to highlight the issue.
"The rights of children are in peril and we urge the state to place the best
interests of the child as a priority in all its actions," he said.
