KHALAP QUITS STATE CABINET: Water Resources Minister Ramakant Khalap 
yesterday resigned from the council of ministers and air-dashed to New Delhi 
even as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar referred the matter to the Central 
party leaders. Khalap, who did not resign from the primary membership of the 
Bharatiya Janata Party, sent in his one-line resignation letter as Cabinet 
minister to the Chief Minister at the partys office in Panaji. (GT)

CM PROMISES TO WIPE OUT UNEMPLOYMENT: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar 
yesterday said that on the heels of Freedom from Hunger his government would 
roll out a policy for Freedom from Unemployment, if the BJP government is 
restored to power after the assembly elections. (GT)

BJP LEADERS TO BOOST BJP POLL CAMPAIGN: Union Home Minister LK Advani, BJP 
national Vice President Gopinath Munde, Union Information Minister Sushma 
Swaraj, Law Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod 
Mahajan will arrive in Goa during the current month to boost the election 
campaign of the party. (GT)

WORKERS URGED TO ELECT LABOUR-FRIENDLY CANDIDATES: Noting with grave concern 
the indifference of political parties in Goa to the plight of workers in the 
State, the All India Trade Union Congress exhorted the working class to 
ensure that only labour friendly candidates and candidates who publicly 
pledge support to the cause of the workers get elected in the coming 
elections. The mass rally organized in Mapusa yesterday by the AITUC to mark 
the May Day unanimously resolved to unite with all the other Trade Unions and 
organizations in Goa to defend our jobs, our trade union rights, our labour 
rights as well as to campaign and struggle for better working conditions. (NT)

CHURCH CIRCULAR IS TIMELY, BJP: Senior BJP leader GY Bhandare has termed the 
call given by the Goa Church, through a circular issued by the Goa Diocesan 
Media Centre urging the Goan voter not to choose either a corrupt or a 
communal-minded candidate, as both categories were potential defectors, is 
proper and timely. (H)

MGP FINALISES AUDA VIEGAS: The MGP is said to have finalized Bailancho Ekvott 
president and Margao Municipal Councillor Auda Viegas to contest against 
Power Minister Digamber Kamat in the Margao constituency. (GT)

JOSE PHILIP GETS A NOD: The chances of former Revenue Minister Jose Philip 
DSouza getting the Congress ticket from the Vasco constituency appear bright 
as the Congress Party observers and leaders have given the green signal to

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR JOURNALISTS: Senior journalist Sitaram Tengse, while 
speaking at an interaction the Goa Union of Journalists organized in South 
Goa on the occasion of May Day yesterday, called for the adoption of the code 
of conduct for journalists to ensure that the members of the Fourth Estate 
discharge their duties fearlessly and with dedication. (H)

YOUTH KILLED IN MISHAP: Twelve-year-old Sacxen Fernandes from Quepem lost his 
life while he was helping his father Vincent to repair the cowshed, which 
came down on him and a wooden rafter hit the boy on the head. (GT)

RODRIGUES BROTHERS CONVICTED: The North Goa District & Sessions Court has 
convicted three brothers on charges of murdering their neighbour Jose 
Rodrigues two years ago at Skoilovaddo-Terekhol in Pernem. The names of the 
Rodrigues brothers are: Rosario, a computer teacher, Seby, a driver, and 
Monty, a student. (H)

ERRATIC POWER IN CANACONA: Residents as well as officials at the Canacona 
Municipal Council and surroundings areas have expressed unhappiness over the 
constant power failure in the areas for the past two months. (H)

CYBER CRIME REPORTED IN GOA: Cyber crime is finally here. The Bharatiya 
Janata Party website www.goabjp.org was reportedly hacked into by unknown 
persons and was thus inaccessible from early in the morning of April 30, 
according to Ravi Sathe. (H) 

RAJ BHAVAN DISPENSARY INAUGURATED: The Governor, Mohd Fazal, on Tuesday 
inaugurated the Raj Bhavan dispensary, built at an estimated cost of Rs.7 
lakh, at the Raj Bhavan premises at Dona Paula. (GT)

RESIDENTS DECIDE TO BOYCOTT POLLS: While all the candidates willing to 
contest the elections have assured to solve the water problem of the village, 
the residents of Okamb-Dharbandora have decided to boycott the elections if 
the problem is not solved before May 30. (H)

SHPEHERDS BID TO RESCUE SHEEP: A shepherd sustained 50 per cent burn injuries 
on Tuesday, as he tried to rescue his sheep, which were trapped in a blazing 
shed at a remote village in Dabel-Amonem in Canacona. All 10 sheep were 
charred to death, while three houses were also destroyed in the fire. (H)

LINESMAN KILLED: An assistant linesman from the Canacona Electricity 
Department, Purso Dessai, died on the spot at Chapoli when he was hit by a 
scooter driven by Minguel Benedito Pereira. While descending from a slope, 
Minguel noticed the pedestrian but was unable to apply brakes as the vehicle 
was loaded with jackfruits on the footrest. (H)

PMC CAUTIONED: SS Pore, senior Research Officer of the All India Institute of 
Local Self-Government has cautioned the Panjim Municipal Council against 
rushing into any developmental decisions, which may have adverse effects on 
the people and the environment in the long run. Pore was speaking at an 
interactive session of the elected councilors and executive functionaries of 
the PMC as part of the May Day celebrations in Panjim. (H)

SUICIDE CASE: The Colva police has said that the post mortem examination 
inquiry conducted on Joao Jose Rodrigues (36), who was found hanging in a 
store room cum toilet at Majorda, has attributed the death to asphyxia. (H)

ASSAGAO COLLEGE HONOUR STAFF: Prof Xavier DSouza and PP Kulkarni, head of the 
library of VN Bandekar College of Commerce, Assagao, were recently 
felicitated for completing 25 years of service in the premier institution.
