WORLD GOA 2002
0000000000000000000000000000 MESSAG from GoaNow - in Goa by Joel D Sousa in support of WORLD GOA DAY 2002 Hi Rene, We at GoaNOW wish you all success and happiness on GOA DAY. One feels great to feel that NRI Goans feel so proud to be Goans and to celebrate that great feeling wholeheartedly while they live abroad. We would, however, wish that they could, some day or other, sooner or later, display this warm feeling in the land of their ancestors--Goa. Of course, it would take some effort and sacrifice, which, however, would be really worth considering the NRIs' limitless love for Maimdes Goa. Moreover, those of us, left here in the eastern paradise or vale of tears, for one reason or other, would also feel inspired by knowing that her sons and daughters overseas care so much for Goa. Cheers. Joel. 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 and WORLD GOA DAY 2002 The World Goa Day 2002 will be celebrated throughout the Goan world on 17th and 18th of August. This is the third year in row of this speical Goan event that was initiated by the UK based Rene Barreto in the year 2000. It was to commemorate the entry of the Konkani language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which had taken place on 20 August 1992. It is a day of Goan solidarity the world over. Each community in the country of its residence celebrates the day with socio-cultural events ...singing always its anthem PROUD TO BE A GOAN. Last year it was celebrated in U.K., Portugal. Pakistan, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Kenya, Australia, Goa. This year will join Mumbai, under the umbrella of GRAF (Goan Review Art Foundation) The appeal to organise this feast is directed to the leaders of the Goan Associations, but in the absence of an Association, any individual can organise it with just few Goan friends meeting somewhere and toasting to the World Goa Day -the link of the Konkani Movement overseas. It is a day to talk to your children of the Konkani language, of its distinct identity among Indian language. that it is the only Indian language even today written in the Roman script, and it has a lovely magazine like Goan Review, among others. It is a day to talk about Goa in terms of it being our dear Motherland, no matter where we were born. It is like a national day like St. Patrick's Day is to the Irish. It is a day to teach your children the song PROUD TO BE A GOAN, to instill in them the pride of being a Goan. It has been propagated far and wide through the internet and the many E-forums. Let Mumbai-ites resound it this year with great pomp as only Mumbai Goans know.
