More than 10,000 shops and factories were gutted, and 150,000 individuals were rendered homeless and forced into relief camps. Today, around 20,000 people still remain in these camps. Join Indians around the world in a show of solidarity with victims and survivors of this communal violence on August 15th,India's Independence Day. Wear a white ribbon as a visible symbol of your condemnation of the communal riots and your support in the vision for a peaceful and just India. If a ribbon is difficult to find, wear a white handkerchief, scarf, or Even a band made of white paper, and join together with other Indians across the world to create a powerful statement for peace and communal harmony on Independence Day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Volunteers are needed for direct distribution of white ribbons in Public locations all around Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore on August 15.
