Vivian D Souza in Goa Goa Heritage Day was very aptly kicked-off in Goa with a very enjoyable performance by the Goa State String Orchestra at the Kala Academy Auditorium in Panjim. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Pratap Singh Rane, the former Chief Minister, and Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, and currently leader of the Opposition Congress Party. The orchestra comprising of about 20 young musicians was brilliantly led by Conductor and Baso Continuo Nigel Dixon. Selections were played from famous composers such as Johann Pachebel, Antonio Vivaldi, Edward Elger, Johann Sebastian Bach and W.A. Mozart. The audience showed their appreciation with their thunderous applause at the end of each selection. It was a very memorable event, an inaugural performance for this young and very talented group, which desrves the financial support of the Goan diaspora to nurture and preserve this very important part of Goa's cultural heritage. Hats off to Nigel Dixon for singlehandedly putting together this group of talented musicians. Surely a labour of love for music brought to fruition.
