KIFF NEW COMMITTEE ELECTED IN KUWAIT.
On 23rd of last month Kuwait Indian Foot-ball Federation held its annual
general body meeting and elected Mr. Vohra as president of KIFF for the
coming season which will start in the middle of this month. Vohra is the
seniormost person whose presence I have been noticing at Sour Ground since
the time of inception of our Soccer at Sour Ground in 1979 by United Goans
Centre. In the beginning he was running his soccer team of young boys and
occassionally himself was participating. He has great love for soccer and
five years earlier he was holding the same position for a number of years.
In all 14 Indian clubs/teams participated in the election and along with
Vohra Tony Correia was selected for Vice-President's post, Vinay Kumar as
Gen. Secretary, Xavier Furtado as Treasurer and Justin Viegas as Sports
Secretary.
The following are the members: Salvador Dias,
Norman,
Edwin and
Joseph.
KIFF activities are only for Indians, Goans are having greater
participation. Since only the Indian Passport holders are allowed to
participate in KIFF activities, care must be taken to sideline those who are
holding non-Indian passports. In the coming season KIFF must scrutinise the
credentials of every participant carefully so that non Indians are not
allowed.
During the last five years lot of ugly incidents have taken place at Sour
Ground and the fair image of Goans was tarnished. Since the inception of
Soccer at Sour Ground lot of good happened but on the other side worst of
incidents also taken place there in the name of soccer and because of this
fair image of Goans in particular and Indians in general was affecfed. One
of the reasons for this was weak handling of the affairs at Sour Ground by
the KIFF. I hope this year with the leadership of KIFF going into the hands
of able person Mr. Vohra who is a very reputed personality having vast
experience and influence in Kuwait things will move in the right direction.
Mr. Vohra is also ably supported by good associates who I am sure will
devote their time and energy for the smooth running of soccer activities. It
will be a big challenge for the present KIFF committee to run the show
smoothly by avoiding ugly incidents that were taking place in the name of
Soccer. I also hope every participant will know that this soccer of ours is
only to pass our time and there is nothing extraordinary in it to warrant
fights and disputes. Let everyone involved in this try to create goodwill
and not enmity.
I wish the new KIFF committee and all the participating teams and Referees
and everyone involved all the best.
A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
