unknown culprits have decamped with gold ornaments from the house of

ANTHRAX SCARE LAND 2 WOMEN IN HOSPICIO: Anthrax scare gripped a family in 
Margao when a postal envelope containing unidentified powder was delivered 
at their doorsteps. An envelope posted in USA was delivered on the address 
of Ms Concea Pereira, who opened the envelope containing powder, had 
itching sensation with another woman, who was close by, also feeling the

GEC STUDENTS STAY AWAY FROM STIR: Goa Engineering College (GEC), Farmagudi, 
University representative Clyde Fernandes, yesterday clarified that the GEC 
were not a part of the ongoing agitation even as the students from other 
two professional colleges boycotted classes, in protest against the change 
in rules introduced by the Goa University. (GT)

BUILDERS REAP WHILE PMC SLEEPS: Though rules for making provisions for 
parking spaces in buildings were framed more than a decade ago, the Panaji 
Municipal Council's crass failure in enforcing them has resulted in some 
builders and others gobbling up the open space. (GT)

ENCROACHMENTS TO BE RAZED: In what is billed as a major demolition exercise 
, the PWD will undertake the demolition of around 13 structures that have 
come up in the road widening area long the Margao Colva road on Thursday

DOWRY VICTIM GETS JUSTICE: A married woman (Milan Naik), who made an 
abortive bid to end her life by jumping from the Zuari bridge on December 
22, 1995, after being tormented by her in-laws to meet the unlawful demands 
of dowry, has finally got justice. A Magistrate court has convicted and 
sentenced four persons, including the woman's husband, her brother-in-laws 
and a sister-in-law to three months imprisonment. Milan had been rescued by 
some persons. (H)

ERRATIC POWER IN BENAULIM, NAVELIM: The Electricity department plays truant 
with parts of Benaulim and Navelim constituencies. For almost a week now 
the electric power is not supplied for more than three hours in a day. 
Since the thunderstorm on 3 October, power supply to parts of Benaulim, 
Varca, Orlim, Carmona and Cavelossim villages has been very erratic. (GT)

CM TO VISIT CUNCOLIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be visiting 
Cuncolim municipal area on 12 October from 3 pm as part of Bharatiya Janata

NEW THERAPY: Priya Bhobe, former chairperson of Women's Cooperative Bank, 
has come out with a feather-touch treatment and, that too, with a dash of 
fragrance, for an assortment of physical and mental ailments including the 
wide-spread arthritis. "Aroma massage" is the therapy Priya plans to 
popularize at her new clinic, which she proposes to open on Dussehra day at

HOME FOR THE AGED: The Bardez Saraswat Samaj, Mapusa, will start a home for 
the aged for Saraswats. The house of Saroj Shirikant Mhapne near the 
Candolim church has been acquired for the purpose. To star this project

INDIA'S FIRST MOBILE AIDS TESTING CLINIC: Testing of HIV and AIDS has been 
made affordable to all by the Population Services International, Goa, with 
the commencement of its mobile clinic "Saadhan" at Baina yesterday, the 
first of its kind in the country. The mobile clinic equipped with the 
facility of testing HIV/AIDS at just Rs.20, besides counseling by expert 
doctors on sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptives, etc. (GT)

BANASTARIM BRIDGE CLOSURE The Banastarim bridge on H-4A will remain closed 
for all vehicular traffic on October 27, from 6.30 am to 8.30 am for the 
purpose of inspection and recording of the deck levels. (H)

over a purse of Rs.5 lakh to this year's Arjuna award winner Bruno 
Coutinho, at a felicitation function to be held shortly, while another 
Arjuna awardee Brahmanand Shakwalkar, who got Rs.one lakh two season's 
back, will get another four lakh rupeesbringing on par the cash purse 
awarded to the two Goan Arjuna Award winning footballers. (H)
