FRESH MOVES TO APPOINT DNYNESHWAR PEDNEKAR AS DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION With intense pressure from a group within the ruling BJP there are fresh moves to appoint the Mr. Dnyneshwar Pundalik Pednekar, Principal of Smt.Chandrabaga Tukobha Naik Higher Secondary School, Curchorem to the post of Director of Education, according to Adv Aires Rodrigues. It may be recalled that the Goa Public Service Commission had in July 2002 recommended the name of Dnyneshwar Pednekar for the post of Director of Education but on account of the alleged allegations against him the matter was kept in abeyance and the current Director Gajanan Pednekar was given an extension which now expires on 1st November 2002. Adv. Aires Rodrigues had filed a Public Interest litigation before the Panaji Bench of the High Court challenging the recommendation of the GPSC but the Court opined that the petition was pre-mature as Mr. Pednekar was not yet appointed and allowed Rodrigues to withdraw the petition and move the Court as and when Pednekar is appointed. In his petition Aires Rodrigues had submitted that appointments made to the high positions in the Department of Education should be persons whose integrity is not in doubt and who do not commit any unscrupulous or criminal acts as otherwise the confidence of the public in the education system in Goa will itself be eroded. Adv. Rodrigues had submitted that the records prove that the conduct of Mr. Pednekar in not only changing his own date of birth but more importantly, also changing the date of birth of his daughter by fraudulent and unscrupulous acts and making false declarations to derive advantage thereby, shows that he is a person whose integrity is not only doubtful but is capable of changing or falsifying records to suit his purpose and to derive advantages therefrom. Adv.
