I am just started reading, The Shade of Swords -- Jihad and the conflict between Islam and Christianity, by M.J. Akbar, editor in chief of Asian Age, India. On page 41, he says, "For Muslims Mohammed is a man and the last prophet in a sequence that begins with Adman and includes Jesus; for Christians, Jesus is divine, and he final redemption of mankind. It is consequently incumbent upon the Church to declare Muhammad an imposter. To do anytghing else would not be deemed eternal.... The Quran venerates Jesue; for the Church to return the compliment would be suicide."\He qutoes Verse 171 of Surah 4, ".... Christ Jesus the sony of Mary was (no more than) a Messenger of Allah, and His World, which He bestowed on Mary, and a Spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His Messgers. Say not "Trinity": desist. It will be better for you: for Alla is One God. Glory be to Him (Faalted is He) abvoe having a son.' He says the next verse confims the virginity of Mary, but not the divinity of Jeus. Further he adds, "The paradox is resolved: how can the child of a virgin, sent by God, not be a son of God? If that be the logic, then Adam should be called the son of God for Adam was created from nothing. Christians do not call Adam the son of God."
