NEWS LETTER
6th November 2002
Dear Friend

A belated newsletter which I'm sure you will forgive. The 12th October
concert went well despite all. Thanks to 'Friends' who came to our rescue
when the Kala Academy pulled out (we discovered later due to a cash crunch).
They were unable to meet the costs of the performance. So thank you
'Friends' from the orchestra for your help (receipts & acknowledgements
following shortly). We now have a small action committee so hopefully Nigel
and I won't have to fight these battles on our own. You can imagine how much
hair we both lost when we were left in the lurch three days before a
concert!

The Action Committee is made up of people who are giving of their time and
expertise. I am especially grateful to Pia Rinaldi who has joined me to help
raise sponsorship, to David Coxhill who is our treasurer and. Celina Andrews
(Maestro Figuiredo's daughter). At our first meeting it was decided to hold
a special concert as a 'thank you' to 'Friends' who have helped sponsor the
orchestra. Amounts of donations will be kept private but we feel that a
special event, say in an old Portuguese house or another lovely location as
a big thank you would be great. The month of May will be the GSSO's first
anniversary so we were thinking of this date. If any of you have other
suggestions please do let us know as this event is especially for you.
The next concert is November 16th at The Chapel on the Mount, Old Goa.
Tickets are limited so please contact the Fundacao, Panjim ASAP. After the
experiences we have had dealing with unprofessional organisations it is a
real joy to deal with the Fundacao Oriente; their publicity is so
beautifully designed and the venue is exactly what the orchestra needs. We
have been looking forward to this concert since May when they asked the GSSO
to participate and we are hoping that more bookings will result from this
one. The more concerts we can give in lovely locations like this, organised
by other people, the better as we are not in the event management business
and want to concentrate on the music which is getting better and better all
the time.

November 16th should be a magical experience - when we stood outside the
Chapel the other day and looked at the glorious view, just white churches
and trees, not a concrete building in sight, I know this is the Goa we have
in our hearts and see in our minds - wherever we may be in the world.

Hope to see some of you there!

Best wishes Carole
