A CLEANER MIRAMAR BEACH: The Miramar beach cleaning campaign "Together for
Panjim", launched by the Chief Officer of Panjim Municipal Council, Sanjith
Rodrigues, in association with various organisations, was flagged off at 6
am yesterday. The large exercise attracted nearly 400 people including
members of NGOs, clubs and hotel staff, spread over various sectors, from
Goa Marriott Resort to Aivao. The enthusiastic volunteers collected plastic
and other garbage amounting to 10 truckloads. The Chief Secretary Baleshwar
Rai personally visited the entire beach, en route congratulating the
members of People's Movement for Civic Action, Rotary Club, Baywatch,
Laughter Club, Sanatan Saunstha besides staff of various city hotels,
councillors and staff of Panjim Municipal Council, who participated in the
drive. It was heartening to see the councilors, led by their chief Ashok
Naik, involved in the cleaning work, as well as the Chief Secretary, Rai,
putting his hand to lift a rusty beam from the beach. According to Chief
Officer Rodrigues, the cleaning of the beach will henceforth be an ongoing
process with active participation from the citizens rather than an one-time
affair. (GoaNOW) Picture shows L-R: Eng Agnelo Pinto (PMCA), CO Sanjith
