Land lease to 5-star resort cancelled.

The State Government has decided in principle to revoke
the lease of land measuring 3 lakh square metres to a
private hotel company on Sinquerim plateau.
Tourism Minster Francisco Xavier (Mickky) Pacheco
speaking informally to reporters said the process of
cancelling the long-term lease agreement has already
been initiated.
The hotel company was expected to set up an amusement
park on the plateau with a shopping arcade, swimming pools,
parking lot, health facilities, indoor and outdoor games and
other amenities.
However, the project had met with stiff resistance from the villagers,
who were worried about the heavy adverse impact on the environment.
A resolution had also been passed at the Candolim panchayat
gram sabha to oppose it and the issue had also figured in the
Goa Assembly during the monsoon session.
However, Pacheco did not provide any details about the government's
future plans, only stating that it was needed for other purposes.
