PRESS STATEMENT
1. On Cancellation of Public Holidays:
The Goa Su-Raj Party calls upon the Government to rescind its recent
Notification on Holidays for the coming Calendar Year 2003 as the
Notification has the grave potential of being in breach of the principle of
FRATERNITY enshrined in the Constitution of our Country.
The BJP led Coalition Government instead of working systematically smarter
has decided to cosmetically work longer, by papering over the real issues of
cavalier attitude, corruption, tentativeness, and ad-hocism afflicting it.
Examples abound but the admission by the Government of its inadequacies and
shortcomings to the High Court in the Writ Petition filed against it by a
concerned citizen and advocate, against the appointment and untrammelled
fees paid out of Public Funds to the Additional Advocate General is one
notable and illustrative example. The current Notification on Holidays is
another resounding sample.
The Goa Su-Raj Party shall oppose, by democratic means, any attempts by the
government
to divide citizens along communal lines.
2. On Party's Organisational Expansion:
GOA SU-RAJ PARTY has expanded its Supreme Executive with the induction of
five more members namely Mr. Sajjan Bhatcar, Mr. Mathais Vaz, Mr. John
Pereira, Col. Albin Fernandes and Mr. Gerald Fernandes.
Mr. Gerald Fernandes has also been appointed the Spokesperson for the Party
and
shall officiate as the Press Liaison Officer. He takes over from Mr. Bernard
D'Souza.
Out of the forty Constituencies in Goa, it has been decided to begin with
setting up Constituency Working Committees (CWCs) in Aldona, Siolim and
Santa Cruz.
Gerald Fernandes, Col. Albin Fernandes and Mathias Vaz who were the
candidates of Goa Su-Raj Party for the respective Constituencies in the last
Assembly Elections have been appointed as Constituency Presidents. They will
be responsible for building and consolidating the grass-root set-up in the
Constituencies of Aldona, Siolim and Santa Cruz respectively.
Appointments to other Constituencies will follow.
